Cash Games At the Rio During the WSOP

What are the cash games like at the Rio during the WSOP? I heard they are booming especially for this year. Does anyone know what the limits / buyins are like? I'm trying to figure out an adequate bankroll for my trip.

Limits are small stakes to 30k stacks in a 25-50 PLO game. All you can eat baby.

I haven't played there yet but have heard from other players and dealers that they are maniacal.

They have a lot of tables so they'll spread whatever people want, it seems like. The usual limits are there, and I heard a call over the PA for 100-200 NL. Lots of different Omaha, etc.

I would bring a lot. More than usual because of high variance. I was going to post a TR when I go back, but here's a tidbit.

It's hard to deal with the level of donkish play at the cash games. If you raise pre-flop for say, 5x the big blind with AQ, you might get 5 callers. If you raise 10x, you might get none and win the blinds. So basically, you size it to let some people in and everyone calls. One example - guy raises 7x BB with pocket aces and gets called by 7-4 offsuit OOP. He check-calls every street until he rivers a gutshot straight. If you're not getting good cards, it's a tough go.

This is short-run poker in a nutshell.

Why would you complain about this? Sounds like a wet dream to me. Frustrating after the hand is done of course, but you should be licking your chops - the pots are gonna be juicy, the competition is soft.

Yeah, that sounds typical of my last visit to Vegas at the Ventian. You'd raise 8x the BB in the 2-5 game and get three or four callers. It varied on the ppl, I've played there and anything over 3x the blind would get little action.

Played 2/5 twice over there now and the games have been good IMHO. I've not run into one old grump like seems to be present in every other game I've played in in Vegas and I don't miss them. Decent action and if you do get cards, you can get hands paid off - quite possible you can get AA all in PF against who knows what lol. Both of my sessions one guy at a table loves to bluff, one or two or three are drunk, one or two are super tight and one or two are idiots.

If you are driving, do NOT do what I did my first night and park in the Rio self park for the casino. It's probably a damn mile walk to get to the WSOP area if you do that. Instead you can drive around to the convention area and park pretty near the door and it's a reasonable walk to get in.

I'll definitely be going back again and again much fun and poker to be played!

Has the action been solid 24/7? Or, does it slow down in the wee hours?

I wasn't complaining about it. The original question was how much cash to bring. My answer was "a lot" because good play alone is not enough to beat these games. I've seen donkish play on occasion in Vegas, but never to this extreme.

The games slow down at 3 am, but you should have no trouble finding a game. It only gets harder around 8 or 9 am.

As for how weird the games may be, they had a 200-400 badugi game running at the Rio yesterday.
