how do you calculate winning percentage preflop

I'm talking about the percentages that televised poker shows display preflop. I always thought it was by calculating outs and I am still sure that it has alot to do with it. But everytime I try to get the same percentage as the numbers shown on television, I dont get the same numbers.

How do you calculate winning percentages against however many people before seeing the flop? Kind of like the percentages that Phil Laak is famously known to shout out whenever he's all in preflop.

Download PokerStove.

It's great for post flop especially.

Note: you should prob be inputting a range, and not a single hand for villain.

I know there's programs and simulators out there. But I'm talking about if I was in a live game and I wanted to calculate what my percentage would be preflop. How would I go about getting that percentage? (I dont think my first post was very clear. I'm sorry but it is my first post on this forum)

Forget about it...you can't do that. If you really wanna just memorize the approximation of the percentages in common spots.

A bigger pair against a smaller pair like AA vs. 22 is like 80/20.

Two unpaired cards with the highest card vs. two unpaired cards in betwee like AT vs. KQ is like 60/40.

A pair vs. two unpaired cards with one being higher than the pair like KK vs. A5 is about 70/30.

A dominated kicker like AK vs. A7 is about 70/30.

Re: how do you calculate winning percentage preflop

Just do it enough times in PokerStove and you will have a rough idea.

With one card to come you can do outs(2) to get your %.
With two cards to come you can do outs(4) to get your %.

So with a flush draw you have 9(2) or 18% equity (or about 4:1 needed).

Say you have AK overs and you get it in on the flop. You will pair on the turn/river 6(4) or about 24% so you need 3:1.

i agree. i don't think you can really "calculate it". use poker stove. and you should get an idea for all kinds of different head to head matchups. i.e. pocket pair vs. overcards (depends on straight and flush potential, but there's usually a comfort range).

BTW, be careful with those TV shows, they often take account of cards folded which you aren't taking account of (not usually)... someone was nice enough to point that out to me here.

PF, just about every AI is going to 60/40, 45/55 or w/e.

Learn flop, turn equities and profit.

PF in a 100bb cash game really doesn't matter that much.

If you want to do it just based on your outs, there are a lot of charts you can find in books or online that show some combination of odds (ratio)/outs/percentage to win.

Here is one with outs, odds and percentages: pokersyte.com chart

Here is one without the odds, just outs and percentages:

Re: how do you calculate winning percentage preflop

Learn the basics:
Over pair vs under pair
Two over cards vs lower pocket pair
two unders vs an overpair

you'll do just fine. It's not really useful unless you can put an opponent in an exact hand which is borderline impossible most of the time.
