Mansion Poker Closing?

Looks like Mansion could be closing it's doors. Just on the newswires now:

[ QUOTE ]
Mansion has denied industry rumours that it is undertaking a re-organisation that will see it close the majority of its online operations.
According to sources Mansion is to concentrate on being a “high-end offline and online casino” operation in conjunction with Mansion owner Putra Sampoerna’s London casino Les Ambassadeurs.
The company said they were “unsubstantiated rumours”.
The source suggested the failure of the online gaming company’s sponsorship of English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur to bring in sufficient new customers lies behind the move.
Said the source of the Spurs shirt sponsorship: “It didn’t work at all.”
Mansion signed a four-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur last season for £34m (US$66m). It is not known what would happen with the sponsorship following the revision of Mansion’s strategy.

Could someone explain how that article said that?

I think it's all in the use of the word "could".

e.g. Mansion could be on an expansion programme and buying out Party and Stars. Or, it could be closing altogether at noon today.

Of course, I could be wrong.

The Article speaks of industry rumours. The publication, egamingreview, is often a good source for rumors which later prove accurate.

There is some credence as the Mansion business has not apprently flourished in poker, despite tremendous amounts of marketing money. The Hotspurs deal similarly did not make much sense at the price. There is more to building a sustainable brand than giving away a small fortune, even out of a large fortune.

This does bear watching.

ever since mansion entered the sports betting arena people have been talking about their demise. Fact is that the owner is super rich and has long range plans for Mansion.

I highly doubt Mansion poker is going anywhere.

they've spent a ton of money on advertising for being such a small site. The basic upkeep of a poker site can't cost too much. It can't hurt them to stay open

Re: Mansion Poker Rumours

I have always thought that it is somewhat irresponsible to post negatively about offshore gambling in a forum where the majority of posters make a considerable income through the industry.

Now, don't get me wrong I want to hear the gossip, etc. I just think the thread title could have been worded a little better, considering as how the company in question has specifically denied the rumours.

Re: Mansion Poker Rumours

A friend of mine knows Michael Tomeny, Head of Betting Operations or some such at Mansion, and I know for a fact that they plan to aggressively market the poker room in the immediate future.

Of course, I cannot substantiate that on the forum, so take it however you want.
