Rate my ideas for a Mobile App

Hello everyone,

I want to try and develop a mobile application for google's new mobile software android. So far i have come up with a couple idea's however i'm not sure if they are worth pursuing. Thus, i turn to OOT. Also if you have any other ideas let me know.

1) Ebay mobile app - select a product/price your willing to pay. With x amount of time left, user gets shown a preview of the item and is asked if they want to bid. If yes, snipe the bid, if no, wait until next auction and repeat. This continues until user shuts application or wins.

2) Overlay maps of subways on google maps, get current location of user from phone, ask user where he wants to go, and show the closest stop and line changes needed.

I think both of these have some potential but will take a large time commitment to do well. How do you guys feel about the ideas?

This thread can also serve as a general "if my phone could do XYZ, it would be cool"

Thanks alot

DireWolf,

Obviously #2 would be a great mobile app, but don't websites like this already exist? how hard would it be to make it a mobile app?

The point of #2 would be that your phone gets your current location, so ideally you just input where you want to go and it figures out the rest. As far as making it a mobile app, if I could get accurate overlays, I don't imagine it would be too bad, since I could use google maps heavily.

The key would be to do it better(especially user interface for mobile) than the existing sites

I've already seen this on a Windows Mobile cellphone with GPS I think (using Google Maps).

Hasn't google already done #2? Maybe not a mobile application, but they could easily make it so.

some sort of ebay mobile would be cool, googlemaps is already available on cell phones (mine has it) and the subway feature is just a slight modification, and i'd never use it.

things that are mobile-accessible that i use:

-hollywood.com (for movie times)
-facebook
-my online banking
-my fantasy football
-espn (scores/standings/schedule)
-google maps / driving directions / find businesses (restaurants, gas, etc)
-my gmail
-411/business directory
-theonion.com

things that are not mobile-accessible now (or not designed to be) and that i would use if they were mobile accessible:

-forumserver.twoplustwo.com

As for hollywood.com and maps, I found this app for my Smartphone (also available on blackberrys):

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...h/default.mspx

You SPEAK the name of the city/location you are looking for and it finds it for you. You can then look up movie times/theaters around that area or driving directions or other stuff. Pretty cool app.
