So can I get a real job out there?... I plan on having an accounting degree and a designation when I go You guys do any golfing?... are there any mountains to snowboard on within ~6 hours? |
Re: Ask Degen Anything About Living In Thailand
For the haters:
Seems to me like this Thailand crew just has life figured out... from what they have said it seems like Thailand is the kind of place where you can wake up in the morning and the first question that pops into your head is "what should I do today?" in the western world you only get to ask yourself that question maybe twice a week (on the weekends) if you're lucky... Sure getting drunk every night and banging hookers/thai women might not be your thing... then so what... get up in the morning and pursue your hobbies.... to me, the idea of getting up in the morning, shooting 18 holes and then chilling in some AC with my laptop is heaven. |

The main difference is that your money (which is likely the same since you don't have a real job) goes further. If, on the other hand, you go over there with the intention of getting a real job and living that lifestyle, you are going to be seriously disappointed. |

Re: Ask Degen Anything About Living In Thailand
work online FTW? internet offers a ton of possibilities to ppl around the world.
And i am not talking about poker. Anyway, I have a question: It involves money, and how much I will need if I go. Rate on a scale of 1-10 of how much balla life style the money will allow for. Shelter: 1. $100/ month (room, box, etc..) 2. $200/ month (1 bedroom) 3. $400-500/ month (2 bedrooms) 4. $500-700/ month (2-3 bed) Food (assuming 3 meals): 1. $1 per meal, so 3$ a day 2. $5 a day 3. $10 a day Groceries (if house has kitchen): 1. $20 a week 2. $40 a week Entertainment (boozing, clubbing, shiting, etc..) 1. $8/ night 2. $15/ night 3. $25/ night 4. $80/ night Banging hoes: 1. $15 2. $30 3. $45 4. $85 Allowance for live-in female partner (per day): 1. $0 2. $1 3. $2 If you guys could elaborate on how much this "splurging" would return in: Chiang Mai Banhgkok Phuket Pattaya I am trying to see what type of budget I would need. I ideally I would want most of my money spent on a nice/ clean shelter, and food. I need to survive, and since I live in a nice neighborhood in California, I think I would not last in the slums of Thailand. Secondly, I would not be drinking a handle every night; I'm a light weight and haven't he urge to party every single night. I am guessing 2x a week maybe 3. Lastly if you guys could discuss the change in prices I would see season to season. |

what's the quality and prices on groceries such as vegetables, fruits, poultry, beef?

what's the quality and prices on groceries such as vegetables, fruits, poultry, beef? [/ QUOTE ] I buy all my food at restuarants, but I figure the costs of that stuff to be very very low. For instance a meal of rice and chicken and some sauce is like 50 baht'ish here. Thats like $1.5 so I guess it would be very cheap to buy the stuff yourself, wether you can find a place to cook it or not is another question... |

My point is that someone who gets a regular Thai job at Thai wages will not have the same lifestyle, although it will admittedly still be much easier for them to get more dates with hotter women. |

Re: Ask Degen Anything About Living In Thailand
Obviously if you have a job it's different than not having a job.
That said, with the exception of a lot of places in Bangkok, it seems like Thai people are much more laid back and friendly than people in the Western world. I know two Burmese girls currently living in Chiang Mai who work 3-11 everyday in the night market for 150 baht/day and they smile and laugh more than anyone else I know. There is clearly a difference in attitude between the West and Thailand (and likely SE Asia as a whole), and much less of an emphasis on the accumulation of wealth. Maybe that's because there's no wealth to accumulate, but there's definitely a big difference. It's hard to write about this sort of thing without 100+ pages of space unfortunately. Lots of nuances and little details. |

Re: Ask Degen Anything About Living In Thailand
So... after reading about 75 straight pages of this thread I can conclude two things:
1) nearly every 2+2er living in or interesting in living in Thailand has a main interest of banging thai prostitutes or hooking up with thai girls 2) wow, those people are pathetic, most of them probably cant get a girlfriend in the U.S., so hmm "i'll go to thailand and try it" Its no mystery why this thread has so many views and posts compared to other location travel threads such as "Ask me about anything about Czech Republic"... its because there are a bunch of horny online poker geeks browsing this forum! sorry just had to vent. |

Re: Ask Degen Anything About Living In Thailand
ur54sold :
To me, thailand is about being able to live like a millionaire in the us without actually having anywhere near a million dollars. This pretty much means being able to wake up in the morning and do exactly what you want to do... so what if these guys chose to spend their days with women...what gives you the [censored] right to judge them? Don't be such a petty human being.... its human beings like your that create stigmas out of nothing... and then 100 years later we wonder why theres a stigma surrounding something in the first place. Go to Thailand, do what you want to do, enjoy yourself... stop being such a closed mind human being. |
