Which means it will be in bookstores, when?

It usually takes five to ten days for the books to begin to appear in the major chain stores. We have orders and are in the process of filling them now.

Best wishes,
Mason

I'm still reading this new edition free copy arrived today FTW), but I just love this Sklansky quote on page 242 (regarding a Gap Concept matter):

"This is pure math and not open to debate."

Good stuff right there.

My early impression is that it's written in sort of a mixed fashion. While some of it is similar to NLHE:TAP as a collection of general concepts, then you've got a new NLHE quiz and hand charts thrown in there.

Fair warning to players with the 1st version: this book is what it is - an expanded version of the original TPFAP. Don't buy this expecting a whole new book, you'll be disappointed. Even with the NLHE material and updates, longtime 2+2 readers will see a lot of familiar material. The S-C numbers from NLHETAP have re-appeared, for example.

Still, there are a lot of good tuneups throughout the book and the improvements will be great for 1st time readers and cash-only players trying to expand. Any modern poker tournament book should cover NHLE with more depth than the other games, since that's really what most tourneys are.

Since you mention the SC numbers, I wonder if "The System" got improved?

Did the cover

Edit: Which was tried in several colors, btw, but Mason didn't have anything in orange so we made it orange. For the record Mrs. Gonso and I preferred blue.

Yes, there's actually a small sub-chapter called "Improving the System." It seems solid on the surface, at least for the purpose of providing a noob with an easy to learn and quick tourney strategy. In particular, Sklansky notes a couple of "obvious" problems with the original System and makes the needed tweaks. This area won't be of interest to anyone with any real playing experience anyway so most 2+2'rs won't care.

You "did" the cover? You had sex with the cover? Dirty prairie dog.

Sorry, could not resist. Seriously, I will have to go to Amazon and see if they show it.

Okay, I have been to Amazon and I did not really like the cover. Seemed excessively wordy.

If you're talking about the Table of Contents on the front cover, that had nothing to do with me. When I turned it in it didn't have a TOC or the pile of chips on it. It was pretty much an orange version of the one I posted.

Re: Tournament Poker for Advanced Players: Exanded Edition

What does LDO mean?

Yes, I am talking about the TOC being on the front cover. Since you did not do that, your part of the cover I liked.

Gonso 12-01-2007 03:18 PM

Re: Tournament Poker for Advanced Players: Exanded Edition

Thanks. The TOC doesn't do anything for it aesthetically, but if it helps serve the function of selling books then hey, whatever. It's not like we're talking about the Mona Lisa here.

And LDO means, "Like Duh, Obviously"

Doc T River 12-01-2007 03:22 PM

Re: Tournament Poker for Advanced Players: Exanded Edition

Sorry for getting away from the book and into cover design, but I think a badly designed cover (which most with TOCs on the cover are, imo) can really detract from sales.

Hopefully, people will be able to look beyond the cover to discover the gold inside.

Gonso 12-01-2007 03:29 PM

Re: Tournament Poker for Advanced Players: Exanded Edition

Only Mason knows. I have no idea what sells these things, I just know they can't be really dark.

Getting back to the book itself now that I finished it, I'd say it's about what it's supposed to be: an updated, expanded, and improved version of the original. 1st time readers will benefit most, people who have the old version and liked it would probably find this worthwhile. If you thought the first version sucked and have read NLHETAP plus everything on NLHE tourneys, you probably won't care for this.

Re: Tournament Poker for Advanced Players: Exanded Edition

As I don't have the original, I am really looking forward to it. Too bad that I am a American player or I would use the 5 book deal to get this, Harrington's present books, and Professional No Limit Volumes 1 and 2.

I have also had sex with these covers.

If you play tournaments, Harringtons are very good, TPFAP, Snyder's Poker Tournament Formula, and Moshman's SNG book will help also.

PNL1 is pretty good, but that's for cash.

Good job on the cover for PNL1 and so cannot wait to see the cover for PNL2.

Your post was erroneous. Improving The System was already in the earlier edition.
