Mississippi Stud was a creation of David Zanetti's. He was a little forceful in its propagation and fell out with a lot of people. It was seven stud but the twist was that fourth and fifth were dealt together this making it one betting rould fewer. The individual river cards are face up for everyone.

Anyways, the question is does anyone play this?

We have played this game in our home game for several years now. Our game is Pot limit dealers choice, and all stud games including Razz and Hilo are always spread as mississippi. It works better for PL as there is more action on 5th street since people have made hands worth sticking around for, and the river being face up doesn't force you to have to play pure guessing games on the end.

It does suck to have 4 to a flush showing on 6th with another flush card in the hole, and then lose any chance of getting paid when you catch the 6th flushcard faceup on the end.

I play Mississippi Studugi a few times a year. Best high hand and best badugi hand split the pot. We play it pot limit with $1 & $2 blinds, and large (`$1000) stacks. Interesting game and it has its devotees.

Years ago, I played a lot of big-bet 6-card stud variations, dealt (2)1, 1, 1, 1. These games were very popular and had the four betting rounds and the last card up that Zanetti advocates, so he might be on to something; although I've never understood his insistence on the importance of the last card being up.

Please may I ask, when the two cards are dealt is it that players a, b, c, d and e get one card then a, b, c, d and e get another or are two cards dealt to a then b then c and so on?

The last time I played this in a casino, we had the dealer go around the table twice--it made it easier to explain the game to him. "Deal 4th street, then deal 5th street without stopping." Plus, a lot of casinos have an "approved games" list, and if you want to play something different, it's better to explain in terms of an approved game.

In home games, I've seen it dealt both ways. I prefer to go around twice.

I've wondered if this would make it good for a pot-limit mixed game along with hold em and some form of omaha. (I know 2-7 lowball has been played single draw NL...how is it pot limit?)

I've made a few comments to Perry Friedman over the years on FTP at the stud tables suggesting both pot-limit stud and Mississippi stud just so I could try them. I think I also emailed support once, claiming that having more pot limit game options would appeal to the European player base.
