oh I agree, and desertcats statement ignores that Arod had already been a great player from age 20, so his statement is wrong. but anyways, it is fun to go compare the 2. his point isn't that far off - in a few years Arod will be a 1B/DH, and only marginally better or perhaps worse than a handful of other 1b/dh's who make < 1/2 of what Arod will be making. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not so sure about this. A-Rod is a tremendous athelete - enough that he could move to the outfield instead of 1B-DH when he gets older. |
Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
it will only be a big deal if Arod ages, and you are stuck with 5 more years of a .300/.280/.260 eqa hitter due another $150m
b/c at that point, there will be much better options |
Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
by the way, will anyone really care that much about $27.5M in 8 seasons from now? inflation FTW.

Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
again, only if Arod ages and becomes an average hitter who can only play 1b.
if he can still play a non 1b position, and hit above average, then maybe it's not so bad. it's just a big gamble wrt to how he ages |
Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
where else can the yankees spend money to get all that production in one place? It is a no brainer.

[/ QUOTE ] again, for the next 3-4 years, maybe nowhere. for the 6 years after that, it will likely be easy to replace whatever you get from arod, and for much less money. top players by then should be >>>> arod in terms of hittinfg ability |

Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
You really don't think its more likely A-Rod is a top hitter at 38 than an average hitter?
Players a lot less durable and without his athletic ability have done very well in the 38-40 year range. |
Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
gimme a list of names you want me to compare him to (seriously)
