when can i wear a black tie??

ok so i'm talking about a tie which is black, not talking about the "black tie" type of event.

is a black tie strictly reserved for "black tie" events only?

or can black ties be worn in any other occasions with a suit if you want?

for example, going to work, or as for me coming in a couple of days, graduation ceremony (daytime). is it strictly wrong to wear a black tie?

I wear a black tie a lot. Black ties are just a little more formal.

The only time I've ever worn a black tie is to a funeral. Well, other than "black-tie" events, of course.

Are you aware that "black tie" refers formalwear, i.e. a dinner jacket, and not wearing a suit with a dark necktie?

Indeed, Black Tie is Tuxedo. If you are referring to a black tie, I know that it and silver are considered nice for occasions not formal enough for true black tie. Great to look a little nicer without going over the top.

Personally I would never wear a black tie except as part of "Black Tie" attire.

If you feel the need to wear tight pants, a collar, cuffs, but no shirt, I've been told a black tie is appropriate.

Boardroom attire is typically the red Power Tie, or a yellow tie. Occasionally someone will pull a blue tie out, but not everyone can manage.
