How is New Orleans poker?

Im going on a trip Tues. thru Thurs. and staying next to Harrahs in New Orleans, I only play poker and only No Limit Holdem. Is Harrahs the only action within walking distance? is Harrahs any good? do they have 1/2nl and 2/5 nl? any comments would be appreciated.

Harrah's is the only casino within walking distance to you and has good action on weekends. I can't really speak to the action during the week. Time charge for all NL games is $6/half hour. Limit games are raked. I have never been there when they didn't have 1/2 and 2/5 NLHE spread. Game quality at Harrah's is good. If your question is whether Harrah's is a well run room, I'd strongly recommend that you protect your hand at all times. Don't necessarily expect floor rulings to be correct.

I think Boomtown is raked, but it's a boat and much smaller. I've never played there.

I would skip Harrah's and just play with the locals down in the lower 9th ward. There is no other better place for a poker game then a FEMA trailer.

I agree its better to play at the FEMA trailer if u dont mind the smell of decaying corpes, they also use human teeth as chips.

Wasn't meant to be a joke. What the joke is that 2 years later, casinos were rebuilt/repaired and are operating, but little to no progress on personal homes. I guess people have money to gamble when they don't have a house or a mortgage.

Harrah's employs a lot of the folks whose homes were destroyed. Not that I'm a corporate flak or anything, but their reopening so soon after the hurricane was a boost to the area.

But back to the OP: Games are good during the week, though not as wild as on the drunken weekends. Also, a lot of the recent postings have taken the staff to task, and while I don't dispute the lapses in competence, I want to mention that it is a very friendly room.

Example: Recently an NYC fellow was in town to play, and he was so wildly obnoxious in that Borgata/Foxwoods-corridor way that he got every regular a the table livid. And these were people whom I'd played with for years and had never seen in any kind of altercation.

Also, the 9th Ward has its share of good players.

take a chill pill bro, like mrAtlantico said, its been more than 2 yrs now so its ok to make a joke or too, I understand the gravity of the situation but we have to move on, I wish those Extreme Makeover TV on ABC will visit this area and build homes for this folks, I will volunteer to give everybody a lap dance if that would help.
