Frost predictions

So I have a 8 am tee time tomorrow morning that is 45 minutes away.

The dew point is like 18 degrees.

Anyone know how to forecast frost based on temperature, humidity, etc?

Hey Troll,

Forecasting frost is not as easy as just looking at the dew point. You need to be taking into effect more variables like cloud cover and wind speed to name two.

Frost delays are very frustrating. I always call the course the day before to ask their policy/opinion for the next morning. Sometimes they know zippo, but often times they can give you a good idea of what to expect.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. It seems that the wind is a much bigger factor than I would have imagined.

We had no wind and it got colder than expected (low 20F).

Had to wait 1.25 hrs but it wasn't that big of deal as we were the first ones off and only a 3.5 hr round.

We actually warmed up well at the range and short game area.

Where are you from and how do you play in those temps?

Southeast PA.

Here's what I wear on my hands. I have bad circulation and my hands never get cold:

Regular golf shoes and thicker khakis.

Ski cap or baseball cap.

I have a Footjoy jacket that is water/windproof.

Probably most important is that I walk.

I'm never cold and it's enjoyable golf (a lot less crowded than the summer).

Hmm .. It's -28C and a foot of snow where I live. I'm afraid the next time I'll have a Frost ?? will be April when I go to Kelowna for an annual golf trip.

Til then it's work, weights and hockey.

Frost is very unpredictable. Some courses have some of the first greens with shade shelter from the east adding to frost delays. That's just poor planning in this climate(300 miles north of Montana)
There are a few local courses with 11am or noon shotgun starts deep into frost season. Works well, I think.

I've played a lot of golf with the temp in the 30's(F).
Won't do it if it's windy - just no fun.

Keep your balls warm and use softer ones than usual.

Whiskey and Walking keep me warm...
