Can you figure out your overall edge with PokerTracker?

Hi,
Is there a way to figure your overall percent advantage on money bet using PokerTracker or any other software?
Thanks.

No easy way, I think. It's very difficult to quantify the concept of "overall edge" in poker.

Percent advantage/disadvantage on money bet is a concept that really has validity in "house" gambling games like blackjack, roulette and the lottery. In poker, the appropriate measurement is BB per hour or BB per 100 hands (or other similar measure).

I don't have pokertracker anymore so I don't know if it's possible to do this but a calculation that makes sense for all gambling is:

(total money invested + profit)/total money invested
example:
In holdem it could go something like this
5/10NL 3-handed
1st hand you fold BB
2nd hand you limp from SB and wins the pot with $10 flop bet
3rd hand you raise to $35 BB calls
flop bet $50 BB calls
turn bet $100 BB calls
river check check
you win pot $375
profit= $375 (-10+10+375)
money invested=$215 (10+20+185)
edge= 2.74 or 174% ((375+215)/215)

Does that make sense?

You are calculating the ROI for a hand. That isn't the same as an edge. BlueBear is correct. The concept of "an edge" doesn't apply to poker.

Okay. Would it be possible to figure the return on money bet?
For instance, could you figure what the total money put into the pot was over 50K hands and then figure the win (loss) for the same 50K hands and arrive at the ROI?

The win/loss is obviously there.

The amount risked per hand is certainly listed in one of the tabs. Not sure if there is a total. I can't check as I'm having PT issues. It takes me 30 min to move between tabs. If there is no total you can just add it up manually.

Why is "edge" not the the same as ROI in ring poker? Maybe it is just semantics. You simply take the net cash won and divide it by the total amount of cash bet (risked). It is not normally computed for ring poker but it seems like it would be a valid and useful statistic. BTW I'm pretty sure you can only get ROI or edge in ring games from PT by using an SQL script.

yes, it's possible to guess using PT. i've made a couple of posts about it. search for them.

my edge was about 1.7% at about 2.5ptbb/100.

my edge at poker is ~ 2.1% according to PT.

I think this is more complex than it appears. In a way, you risk your stack in every hand you enter.
