I can\'t seem to beat the $5 or $6

I have played close to 2000 hu sng's on ft

I win at the $2 at %7 roi with more than 700 games played

I move up to the 5 a couple weeks ago and I can't seem to win anything with over 400 games I have a -3.4% roi

After that stretch I moved down played about 300 more games at $2 and now with about 200 games at the 6$ I have -7% roi
I will outline my strategy because I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have tried reviewing hand histories reading as much as I can about heads up and nothing seems to work

I raise about top 40-50% of hands on the button
I cbet if I have any piece of the flop or 6 outs or better
I shutdown going for a cheap showdown if I have 2 or 3rd pair unless I improve.

I play tight oop.
IF its limped to me I will raise to 4 or 5 bb with 88+ KJ+( AT+ (these are the hands I reraise with also) I always lead for 1/2 pot in this situation on the flop

I only call raises with small pp early on, any broadway, A7+ K9+ J9+ Q9+ 9T and 8T

That is basically how I play

What am I doing wrong?

It's really hard to see what your doing wrong, I would need to see you play a few games so I can come to a conclusion on what you are doing wrong. PM me with your AIM or MSN, and I will try to squeeze in some time to watch your HU game play.

stop thinking about rules and just focus on exploiting your opponents play. sounds like ur just playing your cards and not playing your opponent's hand.

One part that caught my attention is that you call raises with A-7+, k-9+ etc .

Here is where you should be more inclined to be the aggressor and lean towards re-raising with those hands . You seldom want to call in NL but you should be more inclined to re-raise with strong ace hands and kings with decent kickers .

What Indy said. Wtf, poker isn't about playing exact cards. Ask yourself why you are cbetting such a wide range. Ask yourself about better strategies than just playing the same hands the same way every time.

I raise about top 40-50% of hands on the button

-- I play about 70%, seems like most people play 60%

I cbet if I have any piece of the flop or 6 outs or better

-- bad idea. Are you pot-betting?

I shutdown going for a cheap showdown if I have 2 or 3rd pair unless I improve.

-- sometimes this is effective strategy, you may want to work on inducing bluffs. This will be accomplished by playing more aggressive.

I play tight oop.

IF its limped to me I will raise to 4 or 5 bb with 88+ KJ+( AT+ (these are the hands I reraise with also) I always lead for 1/2 pot in this situation on the flop

-- That is a little too much. I bet that when you lead, you get called often.

I only call raises with small pp early on, any broadway, A7+ K9+ J9+ Q9+ 9T and 8T

-- Take away some of your weaker aces, add suited aces, some suited kings, some suited gappers.

You should post your stats. I would be interested in seeing your AF, PFR, VPIP in SB, VPIP in BB.

There are a ton of concepts you need to nail down, although I think it is weird you can't beat the 5 and 6 while beating the 2.

Describe the kind of opponent that frustrates you the most.

Thanks for all of the responses,

These are my stats,
SB:
VPIP: 55.1% PFR:53.7 Wtsd: 31.4% W$SD:51.6 W$WSF: 44.3 AF: 4.8 Flop Cbet%: 83.1

BB:
VPIP: 15.8 PFR:11.3 CC%:13.4 3bet%:12 WTSD:31.5 W$SD:51.8 W$WSF: 35.9 AF: 5.05 Flop CBET%: 99.7

I seem to be hearing that my big leak is that I am playing too much by a set of hard and fast rules, I will try to pay more attention and play the opponent and not my hand
I will be posting a full session either today or tomorrow
I would really like some comments on that pointing out any leaks.

This is exactly right. Exploiting your opponent's tendencies applies in HU more than any other game. There's no one else you can get chips from, so you really have to focus on what your opponent does, and figure out how to make what he does the wrong thing to do.

One more question. What games of poker have you played (and did well at) before?
