The $8 is fine, whatever, big deal. Its the principle of having to buy the NFL's network to see a local game

The game will be shown in the local market. Tonight's Colts/Falcons game was shown on the local NBC affiliate in Indianapolis. Local markets always get their game on free broadcast stations.

The NFL wants the NFL Network to be carried on lower tier cable packages. Two seasons ago it actually was.

The major cable companies moved it to a higher tier and the NFL is currently fighting them about it.

I used to get the NFL Network before those bastards did this (Comcast).

A local affliate here in Atlanta also showed the Indy/Atl game with the NFL network feed.

Why would I want to pay $100 a year to watch two good games? Just like bigteleven network nfl network is garbage outside of their live games. And actually it's worse than $100 for two games because the pats game will be over in the second quarter anyway. So it's like 15-20 a quarter.

How is it $100 a year? You can order it on a monthly basis, so it's just $16 a year to get the games. And I actually like some of their other programming. NFL Replay is awesome, and their highlights are much better than ESPN's.

Yeah, it would be nice if you could just order the channels you wanted to watch on an individual basis, but $8 a month is nothing, I spend twice that every Sunday at the sports bar. This is like 100th on the list of things I have to pay for that I wish I didn't. I do feel bad for the people whose cable providers don't carry the channel at all, but other than that it seems like people just looking for something to complain about.

As I mentioned in the other thread:

I actually get NFL Network on my package. Awesome!! Get to watch the games!!
WRONG!!
Today there was some thing scrolling across the screen that said my cable-company did not carry the games-package to show the Thurs and Sat night prime-time games so unless I was in the local market I would not get to see the game. Contact my cable company. My phone-calls can make a difference.

WHAT?!?!
I actually get the NFL Network and could watch the pre-game show tonight as well as any of their other programming including the replays of the past Sunday's games that they show...but when the live games come on they black it out because of the deal with y specific cable operator?
WTF? They get the channel but still not the games?!?!

Pretty irritating.

Glad to know that cable companies are shifty in every country.

I thought the networks had the monopoly of nfl games, isn't it a bit ridiculous that they pay infinite money to the nfl but don't get to chose what games they can show? Someone enlighten me.

I have read many articles on this and the NFL is just as much to blame as (if not more than) the cable companies (and I will take any chance I can to rip the cable companies).
