Odds of getting out of jury duty?

Is school and work a good enough excuse to get out of jury duty or will it take something more? Missing a month for this would really set me back as far as both school and work go.

jury duty takes like half a day..if u were actually picked to be on the jury then thats your fault...I had it last week and all you need to do is really just say you dont agree with one of the questions..ur kicked off almost immediately

Even if you do end up on a jury the chance that the trial lasts more than 1-3 days is pretty small.

Don't full time students get an automatic deferral? I have never been selected. Of course being a college graduate and a businessman I doubt any competent lawyer wants me on the jury.

The odds of you even getting to the stage where you are asked questions is pretty small.

if you do get asked questions (which is rare) just say you dont believe in the us justice system or any other remark like i hate dentists (if the case involves one)

feel free to improvise

Nope, no deferral for students. I got selected my sophomore year of college, and tried this route, to no avail. I lucked out, though, that my term was over spring break, and since school housing shut down for the week, and I didn't have anywhere to stay, they gave me a deferral for that.

You won't miss a month. Jury duty = you go to the local courthouse for 1 day to the jury pool. From there, lawyers pick people to serve on juries for cases they will by trying. The only way to get picked for trial if you are intelligent is if you WANT to be on the jury. The only way to not get picked for trial if you are an idiot is if you get lucky.

I've been called twice and was on 3 panels. I was effortlessly excused from all of them. You don't even have to pretend to be a racist or whatever. Just demonstrate that you are capable of independent thought and they won't want you on the jury. Lawyers are looking for people who they can lead by the hand and get them to reach a verdict that is in their client's favor. They don't want people who think for themselves.

Plus, listening to the stupid questions the lawyers ask potential jurors (and listening to their competitively stupid answers) is worth the trip to the courthouse. I can't wait for the next time I get called.
