Patrice Bergeron (Bruins-Center) taken off immobilzed on stretcher

Just got in during the 1st intermission of the Bruins game and found out the Bergeron was hit viciously from behind and taken off immobile on a stretcher. Did anyone see it?

Wow, the Bruins seemed to be just turning the corner.

Patrice Bergeron was taken off the ice via stretcher. Bergeron was hit by Randy Jones along the end boards and crumpled to the ice. Bergeron appeared to be unconscious after the hit.

His parents were at the game and he was still unconscious as he left the arena

I haven't seen the hit yet, but I hope Bergeron is OK.

Seems to be standard for the Flyers this year though.

Bruins star taken from game on stretcher

Patrice Bergeron

Young Bruins star Patrice Bergeron was wheeled from BankNorth Garden on a stretcher today after Randy Jones of the Philadelphia Flyers slammed him into the boards from behind.

Bergeron was motionless on the ice for more than 10 minutes, as his dismayed teammates and the Garden fans looked on. He lost consciousness and did not appear to regain it as he was taken to an ambulance and he did not appear to be conscious.

Jones was called for a five-minute major for boarding.

Although just 22, Bergeron is in his fourth season in the NHL. The center has 72 goals in 238 games over his career, and last year signed a $23.75 million, five-year contract.

His parents, who lives in Quebec, were in Boston for the game and went withn him to Massachusetts General Hospital.

It was pure dirtbag IMO

It's sad that maybe 20% of the hockey fanbase would view this as "part of the game"

He had the back of his jersey visible at all times. At the very worst, if you're making contact 3 feet from the boards you need to basically pick up and skate the guy into the glass ... you don't [censored] push down on his head

This will be the third 20+ game suspension on the year:

Jones' hit is the latest incident involving the Flyers this season.

Steve Downie was suspended 20 games after a hit to Ottawa forward Dean McAmmond's head in an exhibition game. Then on Oct. 10 in Vancouver, Jesse Boulerice cross-checked Ryan Kesler in the mouth, resulting in a 25-game suspension.

i'm not particularly sure how this hit was different from almost any similar forecheck along the boards. it was just a freak incident because bergeron was a bit low and jones was much higher than him.

people shouldn't be making this out to be worse than it is, which is a check-gone-wrong. this is no steve downie and this is no jesse boulerice type situation.
