Voted the obvious, but most theist will categorize religion as philosophy, the dumber ones as science, and a few lunatics might even classify it as mathematics.

That being said, from a skepical and philosophical point of view, I think the fact that people believe in this nonsense is very important to philosophy, and that to an extent it's also of some importance to science, as it slows down or even prevents it's progress.
