Badly played set?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

SB ($3.60)
BB ($25)
UTG ($30.35)
UTG+1 ($24.15)
Hero ($21.50)
MP2 ($24.25)
CO ($4.75)
Button ($29.80)

I missed that i'm not at full buyin. Happens rarely.

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $0.75, Hero calls $0.75, MP2 calls $0.75, 4 folds.

Flop: ($2.60) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
UTG+1 bets $1, Hero calls $1, MP2 calls $1.

Is raising here a better play?
His bet seemed weak and I kinda didnt want to loose a 3rd guy.

Turn: ($5.60) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
UTG+1 bets $2, Hero raises to $6, MP2 folds, UTG+1 calls $4.

Time to raise it up. No more kiddie stuff :P

River: ($17.60) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets 13$ - all in

My feeling was that if I bet 8$ he will certainly call, however it felt that I was loosing value by not maximizing profit. But is pushing maximizing profit? Any semi good player will not stack off with a pair yet he will call that 8$.

Opinions?

Not sure about that flop play, the guy behind you complicates it a bit so I think I kinda like keeping him in there though I wish the bet was a bit higher.

On the turn you defintately should speed up as you did, more draws are possible and you need to grow the pot.

On the river his check indicates he doesn't like his hand all that much so I think i'd bet less to try to get a call out of TP. Maybe 1/2 pot or so...

What is your goal once you flop a set?

Which player are you more likely to achieve this goal against?

Plan your bets and go from there.

Ummm, going for a 4BB/$1 overcall on the flop is begging T8 to call because he knows top two or a set will pay him the 10.75:1 odds (i.e., the 80BB you still have behind after you called the $1 bet, not to mention the stack of the flop aggressor) he needs to be getting with his gutshot.

Also, as in your example, he's folding the turn UI anyway. Every once in a while he'll improve to two pair, but just as often the perfect flush/straight combo card comes (say he's holding A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]), giving him ~15 extra outs and making a call on the turn getting >2:1 real odds the correct play.

Bottom set on a semi-coordinated board can turn into bottom set on a fully coordinated board real fast. (pun kinda intended)

I agree playing it faster on the flop is better.
As for bet on the river, the problem is your hand looks exactly like what it is. You slow play, raise a little, and then try to get max value. I think you are getting more value overall by betting around 8 instead of 13, as 13 is very hard to call with this line.
