I think I would have gone ahead and bet the flop.

As played, Villian has an A or some paint and is probably trying to push you off. You have to raise....which pretty much means a shove.

yea there certainly is a strong case for betting flop.

i sorta like check/pushing but it seems like overkill too. but then again if he is a big fish he may call with AJ. i am just really confused on how to max the value here.

I'd lead the flop and go from there.

Lead flop with at minimum a pot sized bet. You'd prefer to end the hand there since playing after the flop could be difficult if higher cards hit on the turn and/or river. Heck, one can argue that an open shove may be a reasonable idea.

Odds are you have the best hand right now. If he has a higher pair (I'm not giving him credit for TT+ and flopped quads seem too unlikely, so 77 - 99), then that's life.

Your pretty short stacked 8-handed so once you check a shove should be obvious. The argument for leading is that a check behind and overcard on the turn is so likely, if you're leading a pot-sized bet or overbet seems right.

I don't think your hand is strong enough to c/r. You would just be building a bigger pot w/ a marginal holding, and you still won't really know where you are if villain calls your raise.

225 in the pot, hero has 1100, seems like a bad risk/reward to me.
