Deal Making - is this OK?
 

Is there a good deal making calculator/software or something out there?

3 way at the end of a $50 / 240 person tourney.
Chips counts are:

Hero: 396048
Player A: 146768
Player B: 177184

Prizes:
1st - $3,240
2nd - $1,956
3rd - $1,080

Hero made a deal for $3,100 and the other two each got $1,588.

How can I deal if this deal was +EV? Was it? I thought it was.

You don't need a special calculator to see that's a great deal for Hero and a weak deal for the other 2.

weak, next time hero should demand at least $3300

First give everyone $1080 (minimum you can win) then distribute the rest of the pool (3036) based on the proportion of chips each player has. Comes out to:

Hero: $2750
Player A: $1698.87
Player B: $1827.13

You had 55% of the chips in play, and got 2nd place money plus 89% of the difference between 1st and 2nd.

How are people this bad at deal making? I was watching a final table on Stars ($5.50 quadruple shootout) where all 6 people -- including the guy with 2x average stack -- agreed to split the money evenly and leave a couple hundred for 1st. It got down to heads up, the same guy had a 2-1 chip advantage, his opponent offered to split the $200 evenly, and he accepted.

What other factors need to be considered in deal making?

Skill Level.
Table image.
Tightness/looseness of other players.
Blinds vs Stack sizes.

Yeah, you got a sweet deal, nicely done.

The beneficial deal making for a big stack is to do a chip count deal. There are other threads out there on how to do this - search for deal making/chopping

I thought it worked out well. Lock up almost 1st with no variance.

8/12 - 1st in $40+4 with 504 - for $5,040
8/29 - 1st in $50+5 with 240 - this chop for $3,100

But I'd say the most important considerations are the blinds vs. the stack sizes and your skill level. Rising blinds tend to negate skill exponentially as they become a larger percentage of the stacks in play. Granted, there's certainly some skill relating to playing with high blinds, but eventually the pot odds make calling all-ins an elementary decision.

Basically, chip deals tend to favor the big stacks. So, if you're the big stack you should look into a deal, especially if your opponents are close to you in skill or the blinds are huge. Especially do it if your opponents don't know anything about deal making (as they obviously didn't here).

You robbed them blind on this, and if you'd refused the deal I'm pretty sure everyone here would've had license to drive to your house and hit you in the back of the head with a shovel. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
