A current trend I see by bad and respected players.....
 

In the tourneys I see alot of players limping with 56, 96s, 86, 64 and hands of this nature but thay are in early position and just gambling. I ask why they do it and they say because if the flop comes low I can sneak in and the good hands like AQ only have overs. I myself like 67s 89s, 56s in late position for the minimum but not if I have to get out of line. These people dont care if they get out of line but it seems to be paying off for them. What should I think about this?

You see the ones that payoff ... and if you hit it can be a monster ... but I would venture to say it is a huge error and costs them money in the long run

If more do it that would be fine by me as it is a mistake

When you see these people do this, how deep are their stacks? How early in the tournament? It's not a "huge leak" depending on game conditions, but on most online tournaments, you want to be doing this every so often deep stack and very rarely in your standard 1500 fare.

i agree, on a passive table early with an above average stack, even open raising at times.

[/ QUOTE ]When you hit a str8 or twopairs you can often double your stack. The hand in it self are a big bleeder but in the specific tourney they can be a good start to an early chiplead.

If you try this 500 times at the 10/20 level and only hit good 5 times where you double up from ~1500 chips you'll lose 500 x 20 = 10.000 chips and win 5 x 1500 = 7.500 chips (net -2.500 chips).

You'll be -25% on the hand but when you do double up your $EV (not chip EV) will bu much higher then the loss of 20 chips.

assuming you double up those times you connect the flop.
