delete is our friend

i keep getting notifications and happily see the mods have taken action. but i'm seeing ridiculous threads locked and don't understand. let's just delete them, or tell me why i'm wrong.

It is my understanding that once a thread is deleted it is gone forever? (Not recoverable). Is this true? If so, could we have a 'mod trash can forum' to move threads to? This would allow documentation on when/why posters have violated the rules and also allow for posts to be moved back if decided they are ok while removing those posts from the general forums in the interim.

Mat - do you have examples of posts that should be deleted and posts that should just be locked? I often lock posts in the Zoo that are not posted in the 'official posts' such as Epassporte or transfer requests. I am thinking you are meaning posts that are totally inappropriate for 2+2 or violate the sites t&c. Just asking as this helps us to better understand your expectations.

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

This is not a bad idea really, I sometimes move threads to the mod forum but it would make sense to have somewhere we can move garbage to where it does not get permanently removed, should it be needed for some reason later...?

If so, add a "older than 90 day, auto delete" function?

I don't think someone wants to manage a trash forum, do they?

I usually lock threads that arent spam as an example to other posters.

there would be no "managing" of this forum. it wouldn't be visible to users.

the point of this forum would be to allow us to keep threads around so that if we ban someone we can keep their thread existing so that an admin can look at it when they email forum-master@twoplustwo.com etc.

LL,

By the way, it's understood that threads involving pics of scantily clad hot chicks that may or may not cross the line are moved here for further inspection, never deleted. I doubt one of those is going to break out in Home Poker but you never know.

while this sub-idea of a forum to move horrible things to is fine, there's clearly a ton of stuff that could just be deleted that isn't. in the past we have received long lectures from the oot mods about the importance of "showing people what gets locked" and stuff. personally, as you can find in other threads, i don't believe that at all, and think it's dumb. so yeah, thumbs up to deleting more threads everywhere, but also having a dump forum for us so that we don't have to move things here for keeping for records (except those photobucket threads, which should clearly stay here).

(and a new thread started to clearly indicate presence of said threads)
