The Mist

One of the scariest stories I've ever read. Since they put everything but his laundry lists on film, I've always been surprised Stephen King's "The Mist" never was made.

Until now...opening 21-Nov. I don't go see horror flicks anymore, but for this I might make an exception.

I agree, I freaked out when I read this story. Though I think I will miss the movie when it comes out!

I thought the preview made this look better than most Stephen King movies. That's not saying much, but I was mildly intrigued.

Re: The Mist

King movies suck when they try too hard to scare and not hard enough to tell a story. When they forget they are doing a "Stephen King Movie," many are pretty good.

My heuristic for figuring out if a movie is going to suck is to look at how much they emphasize the movie is by Stephen King. The bigger the emphasis, the worse the movie (mostly).

A few examples...

Some thoughts...

Mrs. Carmody (the woman that demands a sacrifice) looks way too young and pretty in this picture. She's supposed to be a bats**t insane cat-throwing old weirdo.

The monsters they showed actually look pretty cool. I hope the rest of the monsters look just as good.

Didn't like the CG of the fog rapidly rolling in. I imagined it more as a slow menacing wall of fog.

Otherwise it's lookin' pretty good.

I haven't watched the trailer, but I've seen at least one of the commercials and looked over the cast list on imdb.

- Agree on Marcia Gay Harden...not that MGH is hot or anything, but Mrs. Carmody should be some kind of scary hag. Funny thing is, I was thinking Frances Sternhagen, BUT SHE'S ALSO IN THE MOVIE. She must be the other old lady with the tennis racket.
- I like Andre Braugher, but he doesn't fit what I remember of the description of Norton from the book.
- The Mist was supposed to travel as a perfectly straight line.

it does early on in the CGI shots...it is basically a wall that moves forward. But once they get to the store they just used smoke machines everywhere.

FD aparantly went further with the story or did something to the end. Edgar Wright and Quentin got to see one of Frank's early cuts and Wright said that Darabont somehow managed to make the ending even better.

Having never read the book this trailer is not very interesting. However I trust everyone's opinion on the book and may check out the movie.

I agree with the person that said the best Stephen King movies are the ones that are not touted as Stephen King movies. Can we include "The Shining"? Wasn't it made before anyone knew who King was?

Re: The Mist

Wow, I already wrote this movie off as crap. I had no I idea it was a King novel. I will prolly see it/steal it when it comes out. Before this thread, I thought it was simply the movie that fills the gap between "The Fog" and "The Drizzle"
