*** Official 2007-08 Golden State Warriors Thread ***

In recognition of PITTM's recent unbanning, I am starting this thread so the half-dozen or so Warriors fans can discuss important issues such as:

- Bellinelli
- Nelly's belly
- How it is, exactly, that Adonal Foyle made the Eastern Conference All-Star team
- Kelenna Azubuike, man or myth?

The opening seven-game stretch will be tough as they have:

UTA
@LAC
@UTA
CLE
DAL
DET
LAC

...without Stephen Jackson, who will be serving a suspension. Whatever you think of him, he's a key cog in the machine.

Obviously, health is always an issue, and I'm hoping Greg Anderson will be released shortly and part of his probation will include having to apply The Cream to Baron's hamstrings nightly.

hopefully they tank enough in the beginning so they can come back for the 8 seed to match-up with the mavs again

OHHHH YEAH. I am pretty psyched for this season. I am already really sad that I will have to miss j rich forever, but hey, theres plenty of awesome stuff to focus on. If Bellanelli is actually as good as I have heard I am a happy camper. Moreso I think our success lies heavily with Baron's ability to stay healthy as well as how well Brandan White fits into our system. I think White's success is key to how well we do. Also SUPER glad we got to keep Pietrus. I should be going to a bunch of games this year.

EDIT:
lol at us signing Austin Croshere in the offseason. Him and Baron can go back to the high school connection/getting in fights.

Patrick O'Bryant has been impressive in the first 2 Pre-season games.

Right now, I see the rotation as

PG-Baron Davis
SG-Kelenna Azubuike
SF-Stephen Jackson
PF-Al Harrington
C-Andris Biedrens

6th-Monta Ellis
7th-Matt Barnes
8th-Marco Belinelli
Pietrus, Hudson, O'Bryant, Croshere or Wright.

Lasme, Perovic and either Wright or Croshere will be on the IR or Development League

Adonal's value will be realized this season when the Warriors struggle to a 12th place finish in the West.

I think they can organize a rotation of players to replace Adonal's primary function of taking a half-court shot coming out of the locker room during halftime.

because I find it amusing, here's the (very brief because nobody cared until march) Warriors thread from last year.

also, I am Nostradamus:

Nellie was supposed to stop the stagnation and teach them to play basketball, which is why I'm so upset that they came out so. . .amateur, and played like it was their first game together.

I really do feel like this is a team that could improve and come together over the course of the season, but tonight I just didn't see the effort.

Don Nelson gimmick account LDO

Assuming yahoo isn't displaying false info, I'm shocked the Warriors are favored tonight, although against this particular team, they may actually be better without Jackson in the lineup based on how he played in that playoff series. Conversely, Harrington was Claude Rains in the Dallas series, but played well against Utah (the effect of being "guarded" by Okur?)

Interested to see the contributions of the largely inexperienced players that are ostensibly being pegged to contribute (O'Bryant, Azubuike) and the vets who may see significant time early (mostly Hudson and, God help us, Croshere).

Mostly, though, STAY HEALTHY!

Re: *** Official 2007-08 Golden State Warriors Thread ***

Jazz are the better team. That simple. It's ok, alot can happen in a season, time to rebound and get on a hot rush. Here were my thoughts on the game:

Baron took command when he needed, and he was full of guile (drawing charges, forcing turn overs) so his veteran leadership is appreciated. he also can "get to the hole," which is great because at this juncture he's the only one who can CONSISTANTLY create their shot. The big question is his 3pt shooting and fts; he takes too many 3s for being so bad at them, and he draws so many fouls he should be a more efficient shooter from the line. this may haunt the warriors. (team pandemic in general)

Monta looked good, I'm glad they started him. He has bursts of brilliance on defense when he gambles in a passing lane or overplays a man shutting him off the ball, but his man up defense is subpar. Well, it could be because he was guarding Deron Williams, who is very good on offense, so again, this could just be "1 game judgement," but I seem to recall this being the problem last year as well. Also, he was more effective in the first half then the second; did he get tired, or did they just stop funneling plays through him?

They really need Sjaxx. When Baron is off the court, the offense tends to stall, since Hudson is a perennial backup player and can't focus an offense for more then a few minutes, and Bellini/Pietrus (funny they started him) are just not good enough to do anything (right now) then just nail open shots.

Biedrins is great, but he tends to get nailed by so many ridiculous calls. I mean, last year and this time, I kept thinking to myself "wtf, that's not a foul," but if it KEEPS happening, he has to be doing SOMETHING I'm not seeing, right? When he is not plagued by foul trouble he's able to somewhat control the paint (notice that when he didn't care about fouls, he contained Boozer - keep in mind Boozer is one of the top offensive paint threats - but as soon as he got fouls racked up / off the floor, Boozer made it "his" game) Also, would be nice if Biedrins could develop a semblance of a postup game (rather then garbage put backs) but I know that's not GSW style (half court)

Any other thoughts guys? I thought Barnes looked real bad but again a few minutes do not make a season.

AllinDan 10-31-2007 05:40 AM

Re: *** Official 2007-08 Golden State Warriors Thread ***

shrug, warriors played sloppy and it looked like the first game of the season. I didn't really see anything out there tonight that gave me any cause for concern. Jazz obviously match up well against the Warriors who just can't stop Boozer, but W's also missed Jack a lot tonight. Looks like we may actually get something out of PoBryant this year.

Troy Hudson was really disappointing, I thought he was a great pickup but it seems like he doesn't know hes allowed to pass. Azubuike/Ellis/Belinelli/Harrington all looked good. Well, Al put the ball on the floor too much, but he got some tough rebounds.

i wouldn't put too much stock into it. it is the first game of the season and with the warriors style they can be prone to looking real bad sometimes. baron looked/played well. i was hoping more from hudson esp since baron is going to need his rest to stay healthy.

i said it at the time of the signing and i'll say it again, wtf, austin croshere?

Think of it as trading Richardson for an 8th overall that looks good in a suit + not having to watch one of Biedrins or Ellis become an All-Star for a different team.

Is anyone else annoyed by the mispronunciation of Monta's name? Shouldn't it be Mont-uh? "Mon-tay" should be required to have a "y" at the end for it to properly work.

It's like, we have a local meteorologist named Sean. Wanna know how he pronounces it? "Seen". This was a huge annoying WTF to me until someone explained that he was a twin and his brother was named Shaun. What the hell is the matter with some parents doing crap like that? The warriors have proven two things. They can get hot in stretches and are a nightmare for the Mavs. They still haven't proven that they can put a full season together of consistent basketball. They had a hot stretch in 04-05 when Baron joined the team then dropped off the following year. Part of that was because of a crappy coach, but keep in mind we wouldn't even be talking about them if it weren't for a partial collapse of the bottom end of the west last year. Nothing would really surprise me from this team this year.

I can see both of you getting upset with me when I criticize the Suns for hosting a draft picks fire sale.

Anyway, the Warriors are really nothing special. Baron is awesome. S-Jax is pretty valuable and he'll be missed. Biedrins is a valuable piece. Monta Ellis is exciting but largely overrated. He isn't very efficient. He definitely shouldn't have won the MIP over Kevin Martin, a true stud.

The crowd is still awesome, and they're still exciting to watch. So at least it'll be an entertaining ride.

You can hate on Sarver all you want. He seems kind of like a tool and the guys that I know who work for the organization are kind of exasperated by him. But that's for a non-Warriors thread.

So it's good to see the fans still have the energy that they had at the end of last season. I like the home court edge a really loud stadium seems to give their team. Seems more prevalent in basketball than other sports, no doubt due to the tighter confines.
