Bad Beat Jackpot coming to Borgata Dec. 1st

Two separate dealers told me they are going to have a meeting/training for it this week. Also, I saw a sign in Tropicana AC that they will also start theirs Dec. 1st as well. I don't know any of the details of it in either room. This will leave the Taj as the only AC casino without one as far as I know.

This is really annoying if true.
How do they rake for BBJs in timed games anyway?

If I wanted to play the lottery, I'd buy a ticket. When I want to play poker, I'd prefer the rake to be as small as possible - i.e. stop pulling the extra dollar to feed a prize pool I'm very unlikely to ever see a piece of.

Hopefully the BBJ will only apply to 2/4 to 5/10 limit games and 1/2 NL

I think this is definitely a bad idea. However, I would be very surprised if this applies to timed games, esp. with Taj now getting competitive in this area. Taj is competing in every ares besides 40-80 hold em and bigger NL, and I don't think Borg wants to drive any of the bigger players away.

Dealer (who also does floor) said that they are getting trained in a few days, but that the Borgata is funding the jackpot. She also said that it is for the month of December, only.

If that's accurate, fine, though it isn't a promotion i would value highly. If it somehow turns into something like they have at other casinos and isn't limited to games i don't play, it will be really annoying.

From a flyer today. Borgata funded jackpot: $50,000 awarded for worst bad beat in December. 25, 15, and 10 thousand jackpots also.

No, Revel is building a casino on the other side of Showboat. Pinnacle is the company building a casino where the Sands used to be. MGM Grand is to build a casino in the Marina distict, and another company (can not remember name right now) is interested in building a casino on the boardwalk north of Hilton.

Don't pay attention to any casino revenue numbers now. 2011 and 2012 are the years that are going to be the most important.

That sounds like a pain in the ass to administer. How will they handle this? Any hand that looks likely to qualify, they gather the players' information, and then they contact the winners after the end of the month?

That said, sounds like a cool promotion, though I still fear it could be a trial balloon for a real BBJ.

The Borgata has driven the 20-40 hold'em players back to the Taj by not giving room comps. I didn't think the mid-limit stud players ever really left the Taj. Are you referring to the 80-160 stud game that now seems to be running at the Taj?

North of the Hilton? Wouldn't that be south of the Hilton? That parcel is zoned for a casino, ever since gambling was legalized in AC. It is the former site of the old AC high School.

It could be there. I was told is was being built North of the Hilton (I consider walking toward the Hilton walking north, as the Showboat/Taj area is consider part of the "South Inlet") and that it would replace the Hilton as being the last casino on that end of the Boardwalk.

I could be wrong, I'll try to search for the article later.

This still sounds to me like a logistically poor promotion. They're going to have to verify a whole bunch of bad beat hands, slowing games and taking up floor supervisors' time, all in order to make just four payouts at the end of the month.

Separately, do these payouts go entirely to the bad beatee, or will there be a beatee/beater/table share split?

NickMPK 11-28-2007 06:41 PM

Re: IT SUCKS THAT A Bad Beat Jackpot is coming to Borgata Dec. 1st

How do they define "worst" bad beat? I suppose the worst possible bad beat would be in you get all your money in on the flop, and your opponent has to hit a 2-outer on the turn, followed by a 1-outer on the river, to beat you (running quads or running straight flush).

However, most Bad Beat Jackpots are misnamed, and should really be something like "Cold Deck Jackpot". In other words, does "worst bad beat" just mean the best losing hand?

Re: IT SUCKS THAT A Bad Beat Jackpot is coming to Borgata Dec. 1st

Seems pretty straightforward.

The best hand that loses (that's higher than Aces full of eights - ha!). No "winner" share. No table share.

Would nice to lose with a Q-high straight flush this weekend and lock in the top prize.

I know there have been some suggested reasons, but I'm curious what the top reasons for the powers that be to put on this promotion. It used to be the giveaways each December. Is it just "Oh, it's time for our December promotion cause it's the low season"? Is December the low season for poker in AC?

btw, "Cold Deck Jackpot" is cute, but an even worse name. That conjures up images of seeing 27o every hand for three orbits.

A "whole bunch of hands"? You see Aces full of Eights lose that often (when both hole cards play)?

I don't know, but in an 80+ table room, there might be, what, 10 qualifying hands in a 24 hour period? I think even that's on the high side. That's not a whole bunch.

Although, that's just my guess and could be way off...any dealers or floor, feel free to chime in with your guesses....

I'm with you, it won't happen that often. And when it does you probably have more EV from the bad beat jackpot then from the 2 or 3 hands you're going to miss playing.

Re: IT SUCKS THAT A Bad Beat Jackpot is coming to Borgata Dec. 1st

Yeah, my bad. I thought Borgata might want to skip keeping records/tracking down winners for the whole from from possibly ten players from every qualifying hand.

But I guess any BBJ keeps a record of all players anyway for eternity.

I'd love to hear about the effect this promotion will have on the other raked-BBJ rooms. I'd imagine it COULD be significant - especially during daytime hours.

No, the old AC High is now a parking lot. The area in question is the lot across the street toward the beach, where they started building the Dunes casino, which fell through. Remember the steel structure that just sat there for all those years?

Re: IT SUCKS THAT A Bad Beat Jackpot is coming to Borgata Dec. 1st

Here is what i don't understand, if you go to this link:
linky

It says 2 things:
Payouts of the Bad Beat are as follows:
50% of the Bad Beat prize package will be awarded to the Bad Beat hand (losing hand)
25% of the Bad Beat prize package will be awarded to the winner of the hand
25% of the Bad Beat prize package will be awarded equally amongst the balance of the seated players on the game who received cards at the beginning of the hand.

then a few bullets down it says:

Qualifying Bad Beats will be recorded during the month (December 1 – 31, 2007). Winners of the Bad Beat prize packages will be announced on January 1, 2008, and will be awarded the following Prize Packages (as set forth in Rule 8 above):
$50,000 Prize Package – to highest (worst) Bad Beat
$25,000 Prize Package – 2nd highest Bad Beat
$15,000 Prize Package – 3rd highest Bad Beat
$10,000 Prize Package – random winner from remaining Qualifying Bad Beats
Winners will be solely responsible for all taxes.

So does that mean for each "recorded hand" The loser will get 50% of 50k, the winner get 25% of 50k and the table the rest. meaning for each beat they will write down 10 players information for example?

Then the second worst beat would be 50% of 25k etc....

Exactly, along with what Selling said.

I'll wager it'll be computerized...you hit the hand, they'll swipe cards or write them down, and life will go on. If you don't have one, odds are they'll get you one on the spot. Doing it this way will minimize administration, and it should be pretty easy to do.
