The second imaginary number

How important is the second imaginary number in mathematics? I am of course talking about h the number whose square is -2.

Are you familiar with the field of complex numbers or the complex plane? Your number h is simply one element of the field of complex numbers, and frankly I've never heard it referred to as the "second imaginary number" (and I'm a math guy).

No more than the first imaginary number, or the third, obviously.

One more than the first imaginary number, one less than the third, obviously.

Not very important as it is just -(h^2).
