Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

I'm wondering what leaks you've identified in your game that after plugging them have caused improvement in your play. I seem to have a never ending list of them for myself...

Playing A2s-ATs in early position...limp, ugh!

Calling in SB with almost anything...serious $$$ down tubes.

Not paying enough attention to stats of opponents and calling down light...sometimes, very light.

Not identifying tilt in even it's mildest forms...De-Nile is not just a river in Egypt...

Playing while drinking.

Playing while angry about something not poker related. My new rule, "Play happy or don't play at all."

And more...

How about you?

Calling river raises
Missing blatent small pot bluff spots
Playing passive/station when tired

Im getting there

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

- Not raising enough in LP
- Raising too much in MP, HJ-1 is not the button
- Trying too hard to outplay people (still working on this)
- stupid shoves, he's weak there, he can never call this!
- limp/calling

I do the whole passive when tired/drunk thing too. I find I play my best when I'm feeling aggressive, alert, hopped up on caffeine, etc.

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

Lack of aggression on turn and river--always seeing scare cards as scary rather than as opportunity

Calling big stacks light against loose-passive passive types, especially if I'm convinced that "they couldn't possibly have luck-boxed the river yet again..." How about a rule: No calling off >50BB without better than TPTK?

RapidEvolution 11-01-2007 12:27 PM

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

Being too passive on the river

Trying to outplay people at micro limit instead of VB'ing them to death

Taking medium strength hands too far against players that don't fold

suited connectors

Hey_Porter 11-01-2007 12:38 PM

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

- Being really annoyed by min-raises and bets that are WAY smaller than the pot. The min-raises I've found can be pushed around with a re-raise, but not so much the underbets on the river.
- I think it's safe to say that not using poker tracker and a HUD was a leak that I've now remedied. I've always multitabled, but used to never be able to keep track of players, thus, none of my moves were read/stat dependent.
- Playing unsuited connectors.
- Ignoring stack sizes until it's too late.

24 tabling is also a leak. That [censored] is hard in cash games.

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

Slowplaying monsters and going broke with what I think is a monster in a limped pot where someone has the real monster.

Oh and underestimating other people's stupidity: "He couldn't have called 20 dollars preflop with 2/4 could he have?"

The one rule I find myself repeating the most is don't go broke in unraised pots.

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

I always tell myself that too, but it's so hard to lay down two pair or trips in a pot against a donkey. I just hear a cash register in the back of my head instead of the warning lights.

So are you going broke because you are slowplaying and then playing it big, or are you going broke because others are "forcing" you to put a lot of money in the pot (by, e.g., going all-in at some point in the hand)?

Sometimes it's out of your hands, but you've just got to try to play small ball (but for value) in those situations.

Bluegrassplayer 11-01-2007 01:24 PM

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

For instance last tuesday I was playing live and the game died down unfortunately. We were only four handed and I had 4/8 in the small blind. I called, and the flop came 4/8/J. I bet the pot, 8 dollars, the BB who was a donkey called. The turn was a Q, I bet 24 dollars, and he called. River was an A, rainbow board. I bet $50 and he raised to $150, I figured there was no way someone was checking an ace preflop and this guy likes to play his hands pretty straight forwards. I called and he had J/A, he was convinced he was slowplaying me the entire time, and he's so easy to read that this should have been an easy lay down on the river but I just couldn't drop 2 pair 4 handed.

Playing too passively.
Paying off when I shouldn't.
Not value-betting enough.
Playing on autopilot.

I try and to make proper sessons and stick to them so that i'm always playing when I am 100%

Tilting......thought this was gone until October came around and poker stars decided to stick it to me long time

Calling 3 bets light OOP, IN pos.

Paying people off in pots I know im beat - this is a big leak i think i have

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

Recently solved:
- Calling raises with Low-medium PP without checking that I have implied odds (i.e. big stacks who get it in light)

Still a problem:
- Tilt tilt tilt. Seriously I have to stop playing when I can actually feel the anger taking over.
- Acting too fast online.
- Not firing 2nd barrel then being shown bottom pair at showdown.

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

Many more leaks to improve on, but here are the recent plugs

-trying to set mine too much, now I raise with every pocket pair with an unopen/limp pot. Gives me multiple ways to win post flop, and I have been getting paid off more on my sets.
-3 and 4 betting more with AKs IP, 3-betting TT/JJ and folding to shoves
-being patient with donks at the table, waiting for my spot to crush them and not paying them off with my marginal hands

River value betting.
Don't play enough.
Don't reraise small pps against the right people often enough preflop.

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

- I play at a card room with lots of crazies and make most of my money there from tough river call downs with mediocre hands. So when I play online I end up making the same call downs when I'm absolutely always WAY behind.

-Limping in early position with a mediocre hand only to have it raised and called by several players "pricing me in" OOP with a bad hand.

-Not value betting enough on the river.

-Not betting enough when a scary board hits and I know people will be chasing.

Re: Leak, leak, leak! What\'s your leak?

1. Raising more preflop- Although it took awhile, raising in position in limped or largely folded flops with anything worth calling with was a huge awakening.
2. C- Bet that raise- Whiff w/ AK? No problem, come out firing, you’ll probably take it down anyway.
3. Play tighter/show more quality hands on the river when called down, and your raises and C-bets will get more respect (see 1 and 2 from above).

Biggest area left for improvement= STOP GETTING STACKED W/ TPTK or OVERPAIRS. SOMEBODY HELP ME, I NEED AN INTERVENTION, AND I’M NOT KIDDING!!!

HELP!!!

-if people are respecting your c-bet, they are probably putting you on TPTK, and so if they do call/raise you, you are probably behind. Of course the opposite is true, if you are c-betting a lot, and they start to catch on and see you giving up to resistance, then TPTK can payoff (but not worth a stack-off). I like to push TPTK against short-stacks.
