How Did I Play This Wrong?

Okay, brand new to forums, this is my first post; be gentle.

I'm an avid PLO8 player, and decided this past weekend to make the move over to PLO, as I've heard/read it's more profitable (since you're not splitting half?).

I played well throughout the weekend, starting low stakes on Absolute. I sat down at the .05/.10 tables with $4 and my first two runs was up $16.

After starting with $4, and building up to $18, an interesting hand occured:

Ah10h4s4d with a min bet preflop. Two additional players saw the flop of 2hQs4d. Player A, UTG, bets the pot, player B calls, I'm player C with middle set. I raise $3, player A reraises another $3, player B calls ($6), and I'm left deciding whether or not he has QQ.

I make the decision that he doesn't, and I push all-in for my remaining $9 (both players had me covered). Player A pushes all-in for an additional $9, and player B calls us both.

I show my set, player A showes Qd2d4d9s while player C showed 3h5cKsKc.

A king falls on the turn, and a blank on the river. Player C takes all my money with a turned set.

Did I play this wrong? Should I have put player A on QQ and folded? Was I at horrible odds with my middle set anyway?

I'm new to the game, and just trying to determine how I could have, or should have, played the hand.

Thanks!

with the hands face up.......no you did not make the wrong play.

but with the hands face down and most importantly......the size of your bankroll, your play is questionable.

with a bigger roll, there is no question to this play......it was played fine.

You can check your equity here. Bookmark that link, its a PLO players best friend.

Quick tip in posting. Use a HH converter if your site has one. Include how many people are sitting, stack sizes and reads if possible. It makes it much easier to respond properly if therse more informaiton.

Also, sit down with the max buy in. I dont like buying in short and trying to run it up. You lose value early if you get a good hand and can only double up for small amounts. It also prices you in to hands you'd normally be able to get away from and it will leave you with more room to play on the turn/river.

I don't really mind stacking off here. The board is pretty dry, but second set is usually good at these limits. Another line might be to see the turn and make sure it doesnt complete a low wrap draw, then to get your stack in.

Also, don't include results in your post.

AT44 is a pretty awful hand preflop

I prefer http://twodimes.net/poker/ for an odds calculator.

well, op does have position and even though i'm not exactly thrilled with the hand either, its not the worst hand in that spot.

the hand itself plays pretty easy. connect hard with flop or dump or mabe even take the pot if they check.

position makes this hand not so bad.

Not really. You only like nut flush and quad 4 flops. All other flops are different levels of migraines unless you are playing short handed.

i understood it to be a limped pot.

My point is that even in a limped pot, hitting a set with 4s is fraught with set over set danger. This instance it did not occur, but 4s will often be bottom set so it will occur frequently enough to be a consideration in play. If hero flops sees a Kh8h9s flop with his ahth44 hand should he call a pot size bet if first person bets and second person folds?

I recommend not playing on Absolute.
