******** November Omaha Low Content Thread ********

Booyah, two months in a row, suck it!

Goals for this month:

1) play some hands and play them well, only played like 10k last month and didn't win a whole lot for my time.

2) recognise which hands are postable, I probably take some difficult decisions for granted/make easy decisions seem too tough a lot of the time.

3) as suggested in a bbv thread, I'm gonna not look at my balance in the cashier every 30 minutes and just keep it to once a day maximum.

4) play less live, it sucks balls right now. people keep on calling me with one pair at the wrong time.

5) find a proper staker. after finishing my last stake about 8 weeks ago it looks like I've played (and run) noticeably worse, so I figure some more immediate element of responsibliity helps my game.

6) stop being so condescending in posts. while i'd like to think i know it all, and it's important to assert your own view, i most likely don't know it all and can be a little unnecessarily abrasive at times.

7) get my playstation3 back and play some warhawk/pes2008. poop less. drink more. haircut, I look like morrissey right now. see if i can use the condom in my wallet before it expires. reformat my computer and reinstall everything. diversify my roll. win a $200+ buyin tournament. play every hand well rather than individual hands perfectly. learn to recognise when to leave a live game. tilt less. oh, and finally learn to drive and buy a [censored] car.

And yours?

Learn how to play tight and smart in 6-max games.

Leave HU games when I feel like I am starting to lose my edge rather than sit there and spew money because I feel bad breaking the etiquette of HU matches and leaving when I am a big winner.

Make my sharkscope graph go above the neat little 0 line. (For a pure PLO player, I am pretty much obsessed with HS HU SNG)

Play a minimum of 20k hands

If I reach my monthly goal, actually go through with cashing out a large part of my bankroll so that I can buy a studio apartment after school and then start over and grind 10/20 for a bit.

Re: ******** November Omaha Low Content Thread ********

I played an astounding 5kish hands in nov, and only a sort of miracle one-hour session yesterday put me into 5 digit territory.

In dec. I'd like to play at least 15 and hopefully 20 or so thousand hands. I'd like to earn 35k or so. I'd like to not get upset if I don't run at expectation.

I'd like to do a thursday NYT crossword on my own, no errors, no cheating.

I'd like to keep up on the readings for the one class I'm taking.

I'd like to start thining seriously about taking some money out of poker.

I'd like to play a bit of NL, maybe with a coach. On that note, What CR vids are good for learning MS-6max other then Brian?

I'd like to cook a bit more.

Take my girlfriend to NYC for a weekend like i've been talking about since august.

Think about buying a house.

ce'st tout, pour la temps.

Green Plastic's videos are the best IMO (yes better than Brian's)

Goals

1. Try some shots at higher levels

2. Play more hands (more than one table)

3. Learn something

Re: ******** November Omaha Low Content Thread ********

Goals:

1. Make enough at 0.5/1 so that I have 30 BI for 1/2. I'm trying to be really careful to do things right this time, so that when I am rolled for 1/2 again, I'm not constantly taking shots at higher games until I flame out at 5/10 one night.

2. Play enough hands on Stars to make 15,000 VPPs. I need ~31,000 VPPs before the end of the year to make Supernova and that would obviously be handy to have for next year. I figure that 30K hands a month should get me there which comes to just under 30 hours a week the way I play.

Yes everyone thinks I should finish law school, but I just don't think I have it in me. And I understand the desire for gainful employment -- it's what killed my previous incarnation as a dedicated poker player and drove me into law school in the first place. So I'm thinking I'll teach high school english between sessions.

I envision no future as a happy balanced human being that involve me using a law degree for any professional purpose. My main motivation to finish law school at the moment is to get my family/friends/girlfriend off my back about finishing law school. Even if I did graduate, I'd rather die than be a lawyer.

Re: ******** November Omaha Low Content Thread ********

October first. Got back to seriously playing the game, play 7.5k hands mostly from 25c through $1.

More importantly accomplished goal of reducing (mediocre) hands played. Historically I have been VPIP 40+. In October, I got it down to 30/12/2.

November goals:
Get feel of game back. I find the biggest problem not playing much is getting the proportions right. How often someone playing "X" number of hands should be hitting 'y' flops, etc.

And getting rid of snap calls and check-raise re-raises when it ends up (with not too much thought) that my opponent's hand range is quite different than I initially thought. Conversely, when I have my opponent read or I can't get away from the hand, I'd like to get really lucky in November and run supra-Sklansky $$$ EV positive.

Finish remodeling my living room.

Focus on playing a 'good' 2 hour or so session most days, and work smart and hard at my 'other' job outside of that.

Clear these FPPs to get my $650 bonus released on stars without going broke (not as easy as it might sound -- remember I withdrew nearly my whole roll -- except $200 -- last month)

Deposit on FTP and play more there since its virtually 100% that I wont make supernova in 2007, plus its not as rigged as stars was in October.

Save more money.

Pete how far through law school are you currently?

So why not just finish, you don't have to practice law...but the degree itself will give you tons of options later in life. And if you are most of the way through it, it seems like a tremendous waste of money to quit now.

Not that they are comparable, but when I was getting my MBA (while working full-time), I nearly quit rather than taking out the $18k loan to finish up. I'm very glad now that I didn't, even though my degree doesn't play a major part in my day to day job function.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

[/ QUOTE ]I was thinking exactly the same thing.

It turns out to be very hard to finish later. You think that's an option, and it is, but it's less and less feasible as time passes. You can't just pick up where you left off years earlier. You forget stuff, things change, and you don't have the stamina. I think that's pretty universal.

However, I know the feeling of relief when you get out of something that has been stifling you. And if Pete has gotten to that place in his mind, then law school is a goner. It simply feels too good to be rid of the oppression to go back.

Anyhow, whatever you decide Pete, lay your cards on the table and be straightforward and sincere with your loved one.

And good luck with all the nagging and bitching that will be forthcoming from her.
