300BB rule enough for the casual internet poker player?
 

Hello all, first post here. I am using the 300BB rule for my bankroll. I am an average recreational player. What are the chances of me going broke if I am not a total donk? I usually play between one and two tables, no more. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Doesn't matter how large your bankroll is if you're a losing player.

I agree, but I don't plan on being a losing player. I am studying the game, reading books, and getting a lot of help from this forum. I guess time will tell [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

OK. Just don't forget that it's quite a minority that wins in the long term, so don't get your hopes up.

This and this should help, although I have no idea how realistic they are. If you don't have Poker Tracker (or a different tracking program), I STRONGLY suggest you get it.

When I started playing at the nanolimits, I stuck by the 300BB rule until I switched over to NL.

Depends on a ton of things, but as long as you're not relying on poker for income 300 is fine. Drop down if you drop 150.

OK for NL... If I want to play $10 NL I would need a $300 bankroll, for $100 NL I would need a $3,000 bankroll, ect... That sounds pretty safe to me. Keep in mind I am NOT playing for a living. BTW thanks for the link DMoogle.

Are you planning on playing Limit or NL? The 300BBs minimum bankroll is suggested for limit. Just so you're clear, BBs= Big Bets, i.e. 2xbig blind.

In NL a standard minimum bankroll is 20 buy-ins. By buy-in, I mean 100Bbs (Bb = big blind, not big bet), which is usually the maximum allowed buy-in in NL games online. However, a huge part of bankroll management skills is your ability to move down when you lose some of your bankroll.

dude forget all this banroll crap, just do what most high stakers have done, put half ur bankroll on one tabler and shortstack until ur robusto

If youve got a steady job and can reload with out to much trouble, I would just start at whatever limit you feel comfortable with, and then move up or down as needed.

I plan on playing both limit and no limit. I realize discipline is huge key to being successful.
