is Vista worth it for DX10?

Only if you're a programmer.

Since the market isn't rushing to Vista any time soon, most games in the foreseeable future will still target DX9, with DX10 support just being a selling point.

I don't like the GUI nearly as much as Windows XP, but you can opt to have it in the Windows XP style, and not use fading and stuff. It still isn't as user-friendly as XP though. And it's extremely RAM hungry.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I bought an 8800gt a few months ago thinking "man DX10 is gonna make games rule". Not realizing it only came on vista. MS had built up directx10 like it would completely revolutionize graphics and was happening now. I imagine this wasnt actually the case?

Gamespot did a screen shot comparison of DX9 vs DX10 for Crysis.

Still screenshots is about the worst way possible to compare a graphics engine.

I agree dx10 isn't a huge deal but it's far from unnoticeable as those screenshots like to imply. They don't capture the motion blur, dynamic lighting, or advanced shader techniques.

Dx10 will be huge, but right now it's not too big of a deal. As for vista... it's the same as always... Windows 98 was 'the' gaming OS for awhile after XP came out until systems improved. Personally, I'd recommend Vista if you have 4 gigs of ram or more, otherwise just stick with XP for now.

funnily enough there's also a far cry 2 in the works, although it's not made by crytek.
