Monopoly money gone (aka \'shoot me now\')

Apparently Monopoly, in a new version of its game, has replaced the money with a Visa debit card. So no more math...no more counting...no more learning.

Good lord!

(I have to say some of my favorite memories of Grade 1 were playing sick, getting my mom to let me stay home from school, then waxing her at a game of Monopoly, where I was the banker. It was the origin of a math nerd.)

I hope you realize this is to save time, not to remove 'learning' but if anyone thinks you can play this now without math, well, that's just stupid.

I liked to hide my big bills deep within my money pile, so I could finagle more money out of trading partners (who thought I was poor). Do the swipe cards show a running total balance?

This is earth shattering. Let's have a deep, involved discussion about this ASAP.

For whatever reason, Monopoly became the drinking/hanging out game of choice for about 3 months back in school. Not once did we ever use the multicolored monopoly dollars. Everyone just whipped out their cellphone and used the calculator.

"By replacing the cash in Monopoly with a Visa debit card in all future editions of Monopoly, Hasbro puts an end to almost a century of "Monopoly money" jokes and wasted minutes waiting for your sister to dole out $50 because she's the chairman of the board. Instead of divvying up paper 500, 100s and 50s, you'll stick your card into the ATM machine in order to add or subtract from your total. The only problem: knowing how much money everyone else has without some kind of visual indicator. – Jason ChenBy replacing the cash in Monopoly with a Visa debit card in all future editions of Monopoly, Hasbro puts an end to almost a century of "Monopoly money" jokes and wasted minutes waiting for your sister to dole out $50 because she's the chairman of the board. How about the main issue: Monopoly's classic rules are beyond horrible for what could otherwise be a great, strategic game.

Beyond horrible? That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard in my entire life!

I'll take the bait. What home rules do you use?
