suggestions on finding old LucasArts adventure games?
I've heard enough raves about these over the years that I'd like to give some of them a try. To get specific to make things easier, I'll specify the Monkey Island series. I've not looked very long, but it seems like some of the abandonware sites that I might check for old games don't have these. Are these sold on some kind of compilation disc that is still in print? Is there an obvious place to go find and download them? I'm relatively amenable to either solution.

wow i was surprised to see that it's actually not abandonware, so there aren't any legit avenues to download. Nor does the lucasarts store sell it.
if you want to go legit it looks like ebay may be the way to go. However you procure it, you'll probably need to use some sort of compatibility software like ScummVM or Dosbox (which are free) |

There aren't very many old games that are legally abandonware. I guess LucasArts is one of the companies that's a PITA about it and sends cease-and-desist letters to abandonware sites.
I was surprised when I recently found out that Monkey Island 1 & 2 actually go for a good amount of money used. I own the CD that has 1 & 2 on it, perhaps I could help people out who want them. Part 3 (Curse) actually goes for a good amount too considering it's an old PC game - $16 without shipping is pretty high for a 1990's game. You might want to try downloading Maniac Mansion Deluxe, an unofficial remake of the original with better graphics. Alternatively you could try the NES version which I love because of the music. ...Yikes I can't believe this. Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max fetch large sums of money also (over $50 it seems in some cases). I have all of these. |

Amazon or Ebay are the only places I've found older games online.
Be prepared to cough up money though, no copies = high prices. By the way, try Full Throttle, it was awesome. |
