Roulette is stupid!

So I was asked a number of weeks ago about what my biggest leak in poker was and without hesitation I said roulette. I love the stupid game and yet I can’t remember the last time I had a winning session. I realize that this is a –ev game just like all the others in the pits but she consistently calls me from afar and more often than not I blow all my profits.

I was playing an ultra juicy $2-$5NL game about a month ago and ended my session up a substantial amount and then proceeded to go on a 23 hour roulette tear. Not only did I lose all my profits but I lost my whole roll. I would imagine someone out there can relate to this but god did I feel horrible. Just by luck I was able to get a room, get an ok’s night sleep and borrow $500 from a friend for a buy in for the next day. I had an unbelievable session and recovered a small portion of my previous nights loses which made me feel a little better.

Over the last month I have little to show from poker despite winning 11 of 13 sessions. Let me also say that my winnings far exceed my losses on any given day. I guess I’m really in a quandary that a lot of people have been in and I really am not sure what to do. I’d play online to stay away from the pits but I’m a fish online plus like a lot of other noobs and nits I have the feeling that it may be fixed. Runner, runner can only happen so many times.

Does anyone have any advice or experience staying away from the pits?

Roulette IS stupid. I cannot imagine your story. I mean, poker can be sheer boredom at times, but a long roulette session? Forget about it.

The game is slow paced death like boredom all the time.

I can not stand to play Roulette for more than 5 minutes until the urge to bang my head against a wall or something for at least some type of stimulation takes over.

Habitual long session Roulette players are refered to by the casino as "wheel zombies". I think this is a good term, you would have to be in a zombie-like coma to be able to play for a long time.

After playing for a long time and losing, what do you do for excitement? Watch paint dry?

I would agree that it's stupid and that from the outside it can be very boring but when you are in the mix and your numbers are hitting it has its allure. I can also not disagree with the wheel zombie moniker. It’s a super degenerate gambelero thing to do and I’m trying to put the whole thing behind me while still trying to keep the sting fresh so that I won’t forget the rain and the pain the next time I pass through the pits to the poker room.

Stop gambling. If you both think online poker is rigged and can't stay away from a game that definitely *is* rigged, it isn't for you.

If you are going to blow your roll playing a mindless -ev table game, at least choose craps. The house edge is much smaller than roulette, and it can be entertaining to watch the idiots scream and rant at every throw of the dice.

Switch to the Don't Pass line in craps you'll lose a lot slower and throwing the dice once in a while will keep you awake

No, you can shoot if you bet the don't pass also.
Most Don't players pass the dice, if you roll 38 points in a row and go broke, who are you going to mad at?

Heh not 38 points in a row but I've busted myself a few times.

But it's more I make 5 points in a row lose 10 don't comes on the way. Then after taking that beating I switch to the pass line and proceed to miss 5 in a row with 3 come bets up each time.... BUSTO
