OK-Durant/Choctaw Poker Room- 1st B&M Experienced

This internet poker player played a 20 hour marathon session at the Choctaw poker room in Durant OK and I had a great time. Friday night was almost perfect. I played $1/2 NLHE exclusively at a 9 player table. The action was great. 4-8 people seeing a flop with raises. The dealers were fun and personable. The tables had auto-shufflers and two decks so the play was VERY fast. The service Friday night was outstanding. Fun smiling waitresses hovered around the table ready to bring drinks/food. Chiprunners appeared instantly to help people reload. The one downer to Friday was they had a live band playing 20 yards outside of the the poker room. The acoustics funneled the sound directly at the poker room. Each time the band took a break, all the players savored the relative silence...

On Sat morning, coffee and donuts were provided to the players. Unfortunately the service went downhill from Sat morning to Sat afternoon. One of the dealers quipped, "sorry, we hired these girls because of their looks not because their good workers." Finding a chip runner or a waitress to take your order was like night and day compared to the wonderful service on Friday night. Make sure to sign up for their players club so you can get comp points and qualify for the $100K freeroll. It is best to sign up about 5pm in the main casino when there is no lines. Otherwise, it will take them several hours to process your application instead of 5 minutes.

One thing I discovered was it was MUCH-MUCH-NUCH easier for me to avoid tilt in a B&M. I took a TON of beats from a LAG player I nick-named the "straight-master". If I had been playing on-line and taken those beats, I would have smashed my computer screen. In the casino, I kept a good poker face after taking these multiple beats.

One thing that shocked me was the play on a paired board flop. These players had no fear and no concept of considering the possibility of drawing dead. E.g. I bet A7(KK7 + rainbow) and I get three callers. I check/fold on the turn. There are still three callers on the turn. Winning hand? Q5o...he spiked a 5 on the turn. I got confused with the blind rules. When I first sat down, I did NOT have to post blinds yet I still was dealt a hand. Also sometimes these weird blind rules would occur after players left the game or players switch seats. Sometimes a player would post $3 and then no one else had to post. Other times there were TWO sb or TWO bb. I just went with the flow and didn't try to figure it out...

I ended up leaving Saturday around 2pm..... I was exhausted and lost around $150. I figured with average luck I could have been in the black for around $250... These people had no concept of pot control.... And they regularly moved all-in with hands like Q3(QQxxx). Having a decent kicker was not a concept they had mastered.... I ended up splitting a $500 pot when my KQ(QQx44)QT was rivered by an all-in maniac.... [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] I will be back.
