The \"Guess The Length of nyc999\'s Commute\" Game
 

I believe ScottHoward used to do these in the past, and I miss them, so I thought I’d start one of my own.

I have a 2-stage commute that presents many opportunities for delays getting home. A brief outline:

1. I leave my office and head to the subway (about 2 minutes)

2. I take the express subway 1 stop (17 blocks) to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC

3. I have about a 5-minute walk from the subway to my bus gate

4. The bus leaves every 12 minutes before 6:30, every 15 minutes afterwards. I make no attempt to get a certain bus – that is, I leave work whenever I can and catch the next available bus.

5. The buses before 6:30 are scheduled to take 45 minutes to my stop, the ones afterwards 52 minutes

6. My bus trip takes me through the Lincoln Tunnel, the NJ Turnpike, I-80 and a brief stint on the Garden State Parkway.

7. Once off the bus, it is about a 2-minute walk to my house

On a great day, I can get home (door-to-door) in about 55 minutes. However, I would put the average range at 1:05 – 1:20, and on horrible days, 2 hours.

Today I plan to leave around 5:45, weather is perfect. The UN is meeting this week, which has somewhat affected traffic this week, but I don’t anticipate any delays related to that event.

Closest to the total travel time wins, and I’ll keep a running tally of winners.
