$3.40 - AQ

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (9 handed)

MP1 (t1470)
MP2 (t1395)
MP3 (t1135)
CO (t2240)
Button (t2250)
SB (t1240)
Hero (t1465)
UTG (t2350)
UTG+1 (t1455)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls t50, 5 folds, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: (t150) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets t125, UTG+1 calls t125, SB raises to t250, Hero folds, UTG+1 folds.

Final Pot: t525

Should I have raised this pf? AQ is a big trouble hand for me in spots like this. At this buy-in, players do not fold to standard raises after they've limped/completed, so I wasn't sure if building a pot was the best idea (if I miss, I don't like c-betting into two players).

SB's min-raise feels like a flush to me.

Thanks in advance for tips.

Re: $3.40 - AQ

I played AQs aggressive when I played the 3.4's.
People pay you often enough with Ace-rag or something worse.
On the flop I probably go broke.
He might have two hearts or twopair/set, but more often he has Ax or a draw.
Therefore I raise to 700 and call a shove.

people fold to raises at any level. YES raise this hand p/f 150 - 200 will work. Lead flop if anyone called your raise.

Check the flop and either call then jam safe turn or go for the old value check raise, I wouldnt be surprised at all if you're getting it in vs naked hearts or random aces or midpair/fd hands. As played its meh either way, I dont think theres much harm in getting it in seeing as how its the 3s but minraise here feels strong, I dont think any action is a big mistake.

I like preflop, raising is fine too.
On the flop I like betting out and going broke over sb's raise.

I'm a big fan of the check/call on flop. The hope to jam a safe turn card, I think you get value from Ax that way.

Hmmm I think in a 3.40 Ax is coming along anyway and you have to protect your hand against worthlessness if another heart comes on the turn so I'd just bet out strongly and call a push.

Well, I guess in a 3.40 that is probably fine.....in say a $6.50 do you change this....a $16??

Thanks for the advice everyone.

[/ QUOTE ]I sometimes will check with a hand like this on a non-monotone flop with the intention of getting it all-in on the flop or turn. With two others in the hand, I felt it was important to go ahead and lead out here with the hearts on board.

Had UTG+1 raised/shoved and SB folds, I would've gotten it all in. The check min-raise from the SB seems scary, and based on previous experiences its been a monster.
