Barry\'s blog about the PPA conference

Barry Greenstein did a really neat blog about the PPA conference he recently attended. It highlights what happened extremely well, and talks about where the PPA and online poker is headed in the future.

My three favorite parts: 1. He said there will be a full Congressional meeting about online poker on November 6th, which will go over all of the gambling bills introduced.

2. He said he thinks online poker will be legalized within 6 months.

3. John Conyers of Michigan, another committee head, is going to become a cosponsor of the Frank Bill. (big news)

Addtionally, he metioned a lot of the details of what happened at the conference.

Interesting blog. Let's hope he is correct about the bills passing!

I listened to his blog. Congress, especially the Dems, realize that the WTO is about to crack down and grant Antiqua IP sanctions and many billions in compensation to EU if US withdraws from its commitments in gambling. Thus, Congress is preparing to prevent this situation by enacting legislation to comply with WTO decision. Also, PPA's efforts have produced some results. But without WTO pressure Mr. Greenstein is overly optimistic about time period for legalized online poker.

Re: Barry\'s blog about the PPA conference

I posted this in another thread, but it seems more appropriate here. My apologees to anyone who already read this:

That was a great recap of the PPA Fly-in. Very insightful by Mr. Greenstein as to the concerns of Congress. I'm going to write my congressman (Dan Burton-F*) again to try to address the issues he mentions. He's never responded to me yet, FWIW.

Does anyone know more about the Nov. 6th hearing in front of Congress concerning online poker? First I've heard of it, but seems like a good time to call and write in support of poker. TE?

If this passes what are the chances that a big US company such as MGM or Harrahs lobbies to make online gambling in the 11 states that it will still be illegal in? Any chance of this actually happening or will I be forced to move?

Does this mean that only Hawaii and Utah have completely banned online poker? If it does, what about the other nine states? Have they just tried stopping funding of the accounts?

There is nothing on the offical schedule, but if they have invited witnesses then it will more likely than not happen on or about that date.
