Rejection

I'm applying to law school, but I'm fairly certain I'm going to wait until '08 to attend anywhere I go. Stanford is my #1 choice (I'm mostly into copyright and fair-use issues, and Stanford seems to have the best resources for that), but I got my rejection letter today.

Has anyone ever dealt with appealing an admissions rejection? Should I call them or just try to raise my LSAT score for next year or what? I'd hate to wait until next year to apply only to get rejected again because I already have offers at some really good schools that most people would be very happy with.

If your intent on doing IP, Boalt is supposed to be tops for that too.

what other schools do you have options at?

Re: Rejection

I have never heard of anyone ever appealing a rejection to a law school successfully, in any of my browsing at LSD.

I would definitely recommend going to a different school. The problem with retaking is, even if you get a 178+, you are not guaranteed admission to Stanford. Last year, on LSN, of people with LSAT >= 178, and GPA between 3.8 and 3.9, only 8 of 15 applicants were accepted.

Basically, the chances of you retaking the LSAT and still not getting into Stanford seem pretty high. But, I suppose it depends on how much you value Stanford over the other schools you have gotten into. If it's worth it to you to retake the LSAT, and know even if you score 178+, you're still only about 50/50, then go for it.

Thanks for the link. Not very encouraging though. IP is my intent at this point, but I'm not married to it. Stanford, besides stron IP (especially fair use) has the additional advantage of guaranteeing other opportunities in the event I want to do something other than IP law.

Best so far is NYU. Harvard and Columbia on hold. I did get into Boalt, and I'm visiting in April (was planning to visit Stanford too, which I'll probably still do)
Duke, Notre Dame, and Baylor offered pretty good scholarships, but don't have the same prestige.

I kno someone that got off the WL at Harvard with a 3.9 and 171.
Boalt is in sunny california, why anyone would want to be anywhere else is beyond me!
DONT BE A PRESTIGE WHORE, all big law lawyers end up working the same 8am - 12AM schedule anyways =P.
