Oaks Card Club Emeryville Tournament
 

Anyone in the bay area going to be playing in this tournament? Does anyone have information. I saw that you start with 4000 in chips and 25 minute levels, but I was wondering what the blinds started at and what kind of a prize pool there was going to be.

I've played in their bigger tournaments and the occasional weekly effort a few times. They're not horrible structures, tho' still a bit fast. I don't have it in front of me, but the blinds will start at either 20/20 or 20/40, going up somewhat casually from there (20/40, 40/60, 60/120). It's not bad and you get a decent amount of wiggle room for a few hours, after which everyone starts to be a bit short-stacked M-wise and the eliminations start coming fast and furious.

They tend to cap these things at 200 people. Top 20 pay, top prize is 27%-30%, I think.

Sorry I don't have more specific info. If I had the time this weekend, I'd definitely be playing it. There are a lot of decent players in them, but a surprising amount of dead money.

PS, our own L0QTiS placed second in their WSOP satellite series this past Sunday. Yay for him.

Thanks for the info. I just got home from school and have been running really well in tourneys in AC starting with the WSOP circuit there in March. Hoping to bring that back here to California with me. Let me know if you end up going on Saturday

pfapfap and I have played in a number of these tournaments. The weekly is $125 with a single rebuy of $100, 1500 chips for both the buy in and rebuy with 20 minute levels. The monthly is $330 starting with 4000 chips with 25 minute levels.

The structure for the weekly is quite fast where from about midway on there gets to be less and less postplop play as more players get short. I final tabled last Sunday and managed a chop for 2nd when we were down to 2. Along the way at least 1/2 to 2/3rds of the table had less than 10 BB (including myself).

The $330 Monthly allows for more play. I've managed to get deep in one of these and I can definitely say the additional chips in play and extra 5 minutes make a difference, although I didn't cash. At least, as much that the tournament doesn't become a pushfest until much later.

Personally, I find the tournament well run and the dealers competent.

While we'd all love even deeper stacks and longer rounds, I think this is one of the better structures in the area. I wish I was able to play this weekend.

Few notes to L0Q's post...

The $100 rebuy tournament structure was for their WSOP series, which just ended. In June they'll likely start up another system. In the past they've done a rebuy/addon thing (fewer chips each). Not sure of prices. $100 and then $60 for rb/ao sounds familiar, tho'. Overall it works out about the same.

The $300 T4k deals aren't monthly, they seem more quarterly. There's no set schedule. Response was so favorable to their $500 T5k NL Turkey Shoot (instead of their traditional lowball), they've started doing these larger occasional tournaments. They seem to be on weekends when they don't have regular Sunday tourneys, such as Mother's Day, Easter, Superbowl, etc.

I love 'em, and hope they keep them up.

They already posted their tournament calendar for June. Looks like they've made a few additions (Tues AM)

Oaks Tournament Calendar

I had thought the $330 was a monthly considering they've run this for the past two months, and will be into June. But, I can see from past months this wasn't always the case.

Does anyone else here play these on a regular/irregular basis? How do they stack up structure/competition/prize wise with Bay 101's Friday AM tournament?

Yeah, I'm also curious what other 2+2ers play in this thing, or at Oaks at all?

i plan on making the scene at oaks one of these days to check out the limit tables. a good friend checked out their low limit (3/6) game about a year ago and said it was a total zoo. lots of unbelievably sketchy behavior, eg: dude trying to steal a handful of chips off his stack while congratulating him on a big hand, etc. whats weird is my friend is a 6'2" black dread from brooklyn, hardly someone you would expect to be on the menu for people who are probably looking to rip off the local college kids..

that said, id rather deal with that type of bs than the typical asian regular collusion that defines middle stakes limit tables at AJ, LC, 101, etc.

Register late if you want a table that'll break early. Get there early if you want a table that breaks late.
