LA here I come!!!

Heading to LA on Nov. 14 - 19th. Planning to play at both the Commerce and the Bike. I am looking for games in the 15 all the way up to the 40 game?? Where are these more consistent for each variety of game-- specifically 20 and 30?

Also, I am looking for a good place to stay b/c I don't think I am going to stay at the Commerce? Thanks for the advice!!

You'll probably get better responses at Brick and Mortar.

I usually stay at Ramada across the street from the Bike. Dirt cheap, and I think they just went through some renovations.

But I also heard Commerce Crowne Plaza is a good place to stay and a decent deal if you get the poker rate.

Without a doubt the Commerce games are usually fantastic.

Commerce 20/40, 40/80 many multiples of both tables
Bike 20/40 (one or two), sometimes 40/80 (but only one table)
Hawaiian Gardens 15/30, 30/60 (one or two tables of each, only played once over a year ago)
Hustler 15/30, 25/50 (one or two tables of each)
Hollywood Park 15/30

Hope this helps,

Garland

I would add to Garland's comment that HP has 1-2 tables of 25-50 and 1 table of 40-80 pretty consistently. You could do worse than to just stay and play at Commerce the whole time, staying in the Crowne at the poker rate the whole time, or at the close-by Wyndham if you want something a touch nicer and somewhat more expensive. Good luck and definitely post your trip report.

Bike also has 40/80 mixed pretty regularly.

If you are looking for Limit Holdem, its Commerce all the way for the $20-40 and $40-80. The games are good right now because the games are always good and also because of all the tournament players who think they are good but really aren't. Anyway, the $20-40 will be down one 2+2er as I will be in Vegas all weekend.

There is another hotel down the street from Commerce that is decent quality. It used to be a Wyndham, but is something else now. Just don't walk to there and back from Commerce in the middle of the night. You never know who is watching or driving by looking to commit a crime of opportunity and its pretty desolate around there at night.

Re: LA here I come!!!

honestly that can be said for just about all the casinos. The area of Gardena where Normandie and Hustler is are not the best (hustler is in a better area but not by much). Hollywood Park is in Inglewood... not a good area. Commerce is in a pretty shady area as well as The Bike in Bell Gardens (lets not even discuse the area that Club Caribe is in). Hawaiian Gardens can be quite dangerous and Crystal is, well, its on the south side of Compton.

So all the locations here in LA are not the best. You just have to be aware of where you are and your surroundings and you will be fine.

I am also heading for LA Nov 16-21. It's for work but I should have some free days the later part of the trip. I am new to casino play and am interested in the lower limit/NL games. What would you recommend? What is offered at the low end at the Commerce?

Re: LA here I come!!!

$1/2 Limit Holdem
$2/4 Limit Holdem
$3/6 Limit Holdem(I think)
$4/8 Limit Holdem

$1/2 Stud and up(I think...it might be $2/4)

$3/6 Omaha 8

For no limit holdem, Los Angeles is kinda wierd and they list by buy ins....I'm not 100% sure I am right on this, but its close. Buy ins are fixed...you cannot buy in for more or less. At some point if your stack is small enough I think you can buy in for an amount that will exceed the min/max buy in.

$40 Buy in NL holdem $1-2 blinds?
$100 Buy in NL holdem $1-3 blinds?
$200 Buy in NL holdem $2-5 blinds
$400 Buy in NL holdem $5-10 blinds
