WSEX Wager \"correction\"

Just started using WSEX, and made a bet on Tiger Woods yesterday morning. I had Tiger -.5 strokes / EVEN money versus Vijay Singh. This bet was about 4x my average wager on their site.

I got this email back about an hour after he teed off and was 5 under:

Dear Sir,

Your wager on Tiger Woods has been cancelled due an obvious wrong lines. Tiger Woods should have been -184 with the -0.5 stroke. Please see our rules below with regards to the cancelled wager.

When a line is posted in obvious error due to a typographical mistake by the book, any customer wagers entered to take advantage of the error will be cancelled.

Note: “Obvious errors” include cases in which the wrong team is posted as the favorite or in which the number posted for a point spread, total, or money line differs significantly from the correct figure.

We do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Best regards,

WSEX - Diane

Has anyone else had this happen with them? Is this common? The wager was completely cancelled, and I wasn't even paid the -184.

this irks me to death. i am a firm believe they should live with their so-called "obvious wrong lines".

If this line wasn't way out of whack with those posted by other mainstream books, I think you would have something to complain about. However, since no other mainstream books had Tiger -.5 at even, this was for sure an error.

That being said, WSEX still should have informed you of the error/cancelation prior to Tiger's tee time.

It sucks, but this is indeed the case.

This reminds me when I bet the US-Germany World Cup game in 2002. The line was US -0.5 (maybe even -1.5), I really don't remember. Anyway I emailed the folks at Gameday and told them that they had the line reversed. They thanked me for letting them know, and they let me keep my bet. Very solid.

OP you took a shot at a book whether you knew it or not. They don't like people betting bad lines (ie obvious mistakes, not just a bit off market). They feel they are being taken advantage of and will be quick to boot you. The fact that you unloaded on it makes it even more dodgy. Personally I feel that if they take the bet then they should pay it out but I'm not the one setting the rules.

If somebody by chance bet vijay at +.5 EVEN.

Do you think they cancelled that bet also?

It bothers me that you think I should be booted for accepting a wager that was offered on their site. I didn't put the line up there. I did what a good bettor is supposed to do. I looked for a wager that I thought gave me a good edge. I found it, I bet it. Maybe they have the right to cancel it (anything goes offshore, and I know my rights - none), but don't tell me I am acting "dodgy". I didn't check the line against any other books, so I really didn't have much of a frame of reference. I will say that if I had known the line was that much better than other books, I would have probably bet more. You see, that's what I'm trying to do - find good bets.

And for the record, my bet wasn't some huge life-changing action. I have made very few bets there (10 - 15?), and the wager was about 1.5% of the bankroll I have on their site. I play a lot of poker there, and have been a good customer.

A little quality control would go a long way - hard to swallow your bet being cancelled as soon as Tiger birdies the first four.
