\"Running good\" is more dependent on A or B?

A) How good your cards are

Or

B) How bad your opponents’ cards are

A) because you can be folding cards that are slightly better than your opponents but you don't know it.

How good your cards are compared to your opponents cards. If you're heads up getting aces every hand and the other guy only gets 72o/23o/64o, you won't win that much. If he gets kings every hand, you win lots.

neither

running good is a product of your hands holding up
when your hands don't hold up you are

running bad

this is why i believe A is the technically correct answer. obviously both factors have to interact but it's MORE dependent on A because even if your opponents are getting dealt 27 and 83o every time, if you're getting dealt unplayable trash too, you're not going to see hardly any flops and it will be pretty hard to "run good". whereas if you're getting dealt big hands over and over again, even if everyone has trash and folds every time, you keep winning the blinds.

Obviously it's dependant/involves both/etc but for someone as laggy as me, B matters most :-)

I see it as a combination of:

- Getting good to premium PF hands often (wining small pots)
- Getting good to premium PF hands often and hitting them flops (wining bigger pots)
- Getting good to premium PF hands often as well as your opponent and floping the nuts when your opponent hits the flop good.(wining monster pots)

And if after all that you manage to suckout here and there.... you start feeling like a poker god`s son that can do no wrong.
That`s running good.

I find that my best sessions are more because of B, or when I am at a very passive table.

Obviously, to run really well involves both, but it is still a meaningful question.

You have a long-run average for each of your hands. E.g., you might win 12 big blinds/hand with AA in NL, or 1.0 BB/hand with AKs in limit. Look at your good sessions, and add up the values for the hands you received, and compare that with the total amount you won. You can also determine the amount of your variance which comes from your starting hands. I believe you will find that most of your profit in good sessions does not come from your starting hands, and starting hand variance is only a small component of your total variance.
