AKo on the button in a raised pot preflop
1/2 NL; MP makes it $10 to go, folded to you.
You and villain each have $200 to start, you've been at the table for 25 mins. and this is the first hand he's played. Do you call or raise? Suppose you make it $40 to go, he goes all in without a moment's hesitation. What now? |

Re: AKo on the button in a raised pot preflop
Sorry I guess the point I was getting at was that calling another $160 from the initial raiser is not that easy of a decision with AKo. I mean even if you put him on a range of JJ-AA, and AQ-AK, there is a very small percentage of the time where you dominate him, a much larger percentage of time when you are dominated by AA or KK, and the remainder where you're about 50/50 to win the pot. I haven't gone through all of the math, but it seems like a -EV call to me. As it happened, I wound up folding the hand after he pushed, and it has been bugging me ever since - and I think that a smooth call would have been the right play here. I am really interested in hearing other people's opinions - thanks -
