Re: beer and biking diet

8 beers is about (8*150) 1200 calories PLUS 2500 food calories is a daily total of 3700 calories. 20 miles of biking is about 1100 calories so lets call it a total of 2600 calories a day which is probably pretty close to your BMR when you drop 10 lbs so I'm going to say 220.

Re: beer and biking diet

Well, 8 beers a night on average means nights of straight-up binging, and after those nights you aren't going to get up and bike 20 miles. And 5'10" 230 means you are already a pretty big fatty and used to the fatty lifestyle, plus you're having 8 beers a night on top of that.

So all things considered, 227.

kyle, i cant play soccer anymore.

bps, "Well, 8 beers a night on average means nights of straight-up binging, and after those nights you aren't going to get up and bike 20 miles."

lololololololololol.

"And 5'10" 230 means you are already a pretty big fatty and used to the fatty lifestyle"

meh, ive been doing this for 2 weeks and i just weighed myself today (hence my post) so im really not worried about being lazy. im generally not lazy but extenuating circumstances put me in this spot. i actually think my averages were a bit low. i will proly go farther in all categories.

im not really trying to lose weight or anything. this isnt an exercise in motivation. i just genuinely enjoy beer and biking so thats what im gonna do. tracking the results will make it kinda like an experiment. so ill let yall know how it goes.

and for todays report i rod 21.5 miles at 14.2mph and drank 10 beers. gnight all.

just did the same 21.5 in 14.2 again (i have an odometer) but i only have 2 beers in the fridge and the game starts in 5 if there was beer delivery they would make a killing off me.

Re: beer and biking diet

I wouldnt say 8 beers is binge drinking. If he enjoys biking that def is not going to stop him from going out and riding 20 miles which isnt that long of a ride. There are plenty of bikers that are exactly like victor. He is not going to win any races but your plan seems reasonable.

Bikers ride and they like to drink good beer.

Re: beer and biking diet

so i road around 25 miles today but no computer on my road bike so its an estimate. i drank for like 10 hrs too so i estimate 15 beers. here is my week:

tues 21.5 10
wed 21.5 12
thurs 21.5 12
fri 25 15

the beer numbers from earlier were off and i didnt realize until counting the empties on the next day. im kinda tired so i think i will only go like 12 tomorrow. proly to a few bars and back.

im honestly shocked ppl dont think its very feasible to get drunk every night and bike a moderate distance in the day. what is wrong with u ppl? are you so prissy that you cant exercise under adverse conditinos? do you not enjoy working out?

that 1-2 hrs is best part of my day and it makes the beer taste even better. i encourage everyone to immediately start this diet. [censored] hte meatheads.

Re: beer and biking diet

Original estimate was based on 8 beers, with your current consumption by September you will be Jabba the Hut.

So 75% of his daily intake is beer? That's amazing if true.

Similar to the monks of Bavaria.

Edit: Or you mean pre-beer and he's drinking 1500 calories of beer and 2000 calories of food? I guess that's reasonable.

one week update:

tues 21.5 10
wed 21.5 12
thurs 21.5 12
fri 25 15
sat 15 15
sun 26 10
mon 20 8

proly wont ride much next couple days. somehow i hurt my hamstring. its black and blue, not sure why. kinda demoralizing. im sure bps will feel smug but the last thing i want to do is sit around. no, i will take a break reluctantly, not bc im lazy, but necessarily to avoid injury.

Re: beer and biking diet

I think you guys are overestimating what 8 beers a night is going to do to a young healthy guy. It's not that much. Especially when you get used to drinking that many beers.

Of course he would be in better shape if he didnt drink but saying he cant drink and ride a bike is crazy.

I think you guys that are saying you cant believe it are huge wusses.

I think he is a pro poker player too right? So that means he is going to get a full night sleep most of the time which makes a huge difference. If he is drinking till 4 then getting up at 7:30 I would change my mind. But if he can sleep 8 hours every night. I am sure he feels like a champ every morning.

There will be saturday nights where I will drink prolly 25 beers and wake up feeling like a champ and go run or lift. I know I dont do this every day but he's just taking bike rides.

kerowo 05-30-2007 06:01 PM

Re: beer and biking diet

I don't think you understand the coloric content of 10-12 beers and what it does to weight. It also sounds like you don't understand what a 20 mile bike ride is either.

Re: beer and biking diet

Besides the extra calories alcohol also inhibits weight loss right?

thirddan 05-30-2007 06:59 PM

Re: beer and biking diet

yes, alcohol takes precedence in oxidation, so fat loss will stall...

Big Poppa Smurf 05-30-2007 09:47 PM

Re: beer and biking diet

While we're discussing alcohol and nutrition, another quick question: If I'm on a 2000 cal/day diet, and I'm going to have 5 beers, is it better for me to only eat ~1500 cal. and hit the 2000 mark through beer, or should I eat ~2000 cal. and then get to around ~2500 through beer?
