I actually meant to post about this a few months ago but never got around to it. This weekend I went to a campfire in the boondocks and we watched a neighbor open up a 50lb bag of cat food and drop it on the driveway. About 100 feral cats swarmed to the pile of food and started chowing down. Maybe it was watching that happen, or maybe it was seeing Elaine's name (which is associated with cats of course) that sparked my memory I can't really say. But I do wish Elaine and her pet cat the best.

I intend to start a thread in SMP pretty soon highlighting the impacts that feral cats have on the ecosystem. To give you an idea feral cats are estimated to kill up to 217 million birds each year in Wisconsin alone. In Australia they are such a big problem that the Australian army has actually gone out on killing sprees to reduce the feral house cat population. That thread is a serious matter and def has nothing to do with Elaine.

In Vietnam a few years back feral cats were virtually wiped out due to their being considered a huge delicacy, often with "little tiger" restaurants, or even whole districts of them, set up to serve cats.

The rat population exploded and decimated their agriculture.
