Yoga
 
Ok, I've heard/read from countless people in the health profession/papers that yoga is really good for you and will lower blood pressure, relax you, etc etc etc.

I think yoga is gay but the evidence seems to be overwhelming. So what is the best way to get started in yoga?

buy a yoga book and follow it, or just go sign up for a yoga class and one of the dozens of yoga places in your area

If you have Digital Cable and Ondemand they have something called "Mag Rack" that has like 6 different workouts a month. They are different levels of difficulty and length. they change every month too so they never get old. you can also do it in your house and never feel embarrassed. Just do what you can do and you will get better.

It really does make you feel great. Better than anything legal.

There are a number of different kinds, Wacki. You might want to do some researching. Stay away from the one where you do it in really hot rooms. A lot of people get injured in that one, from what I hear.

You might want to try the one that the clubbell guy, Scott Sonnon does and integrates with clubbell work. I think his site is R-max.tv or something. Google should turn it up. He's pretty highly regarded by a lot of physical trainers, and the clubbells are an active training style that should be a good fit for a young guy. I'm probably going to try something like this myself, fwiw. You don't need to do his kind of yoga to do clubbells, though, or vice-versa.

If you can find a course in a community college, that would probably be the cheapest.

hey blarg: i used to do hot 'hatha' yoga and injured my shoulder doing it.. i'd be interested in hearing what kinds of things you've heard from people regarding injuries, because i'm considering starting again

The one I've read about was not Hatha, I don't think. I've read about it in a lot of places, as it's become really hot, so to speak, in L.A. But what made me leery of it, besides it being over-billed as mystical for no particular reason, was the agreement between some very seasoned trainers on the dragondoor forums. In particular, if I recall correctly, Steve Maxwell warns that injuries seem particularly high in this type of yoga. If you do a search on the dragondoor forums, you should be able to find it. Their search engine is pretty good.

The one I'm talking about isn't Hatha yoga, though.

Just this morning in the steam sauna of my gym I was strongly advised by two respectable gentleman to get into yoga. Apparently there are substantial health benefits to doing it, but also and quite seriously it seems that a ton of hot bitches are into yoga.

We have a lot of yoga classes at my gym and I can't help but notice that the chicks that go into or come out of those classes are usually very fit, often hot chicks with really bangin bodies, which they're willing to display through their tight clothing.

There is little to no benefit from stretching anything for more than 20 seconds. Stretch for shorter periods than most yoga requires and you will gain flexibility at the same rate and not risk injury. Then meditate if you want to gain the mental relaxation you might miss out on by cutting the stretching short.
