Suited Connectors theory question
 

I am posting here because the SSNL players aren't responding to the question, and i think we lack the expertise to answer it as well as many of you could.

I often see big pots won in high stakes games , and the winner is holding suited connectors. Truthfully, i don't recall whether he raised first in with them or jsut called down a raise and caught a good hand.

Is it correct to call raises IN POSITION with these types of hands ie 89s, 78d, J,10h ?????

I have tried it some time ago, with some success, but i was not convinced it was a sound thing to do longer term,as you seldom caught a hand, and then often couldn't get paid off with it.

With your kind indulgence, thoughts please...

Depends how long you've been sitting at a table. If you have solid stats, reads, and notes on your opponents, calling suited connectors in position isn't a bad play. Post flop it can be hard with top pair/weak kicker.

If you have basic knowledge of pot odds/implied odds/ and reverse implied odds, you can make good choices and take down some monster pots.

Icarus, thank you. bottom line is you must be a more skillful player to play them against a possibly strong hand that raised in front of you. ty

np, i'm not a high stakes player fwiw (for what it's worth), but it's all based on style, stats, hand sample, and excecuting a strategy that works a good portion of the time, imo.

Alot of the times these hands come from rr the CO or CO-1 from the BTN looking to pick up the raise.

Then someone flops good and an over pair or set or someother decent hand stacks them. You can't be playing 18/10 to play this style.

They are great hands to neutralize your range when you play your big hands in a similar fashion.
