verizon dsl reliability

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, move it if necessary..

I have a friend who is getting into online poker and currently only has a dial up internet connection. He's considering getting Verizon DSL instead of a cable connection to save $$$.

Does anyone multitable on Verizon DSL? If so how's it working, is it fast enough? Also how are things like loading youtube videos, etc..?

Thanks for the feedback.

It is but it is still awful, and NOT reliable AT ALL.

I went with cable, main reason is that the speed of ur internet with dsl depends on how far away u are from the location ur getting ur feed, I was pretty far away and my speed would be really slow for dsl standards, CABLE INTERENT IS THE NUTS!!

It's just as reliable as any other non-dial-up connection (i.e. broadband).

I used Verizon DSL before I upgraded to FIOS. I wasn't playing poker at the time, but it's definitely fast enough. Online poker in general isn't much of a bandwidth hog at ALL. FWIW my speed was 768Kbs/128Kbs, or 96KB/s down and 16KB/s up. And I actually got those speeds about 100% of the time.

A word about Verizon: I almost never have had connection problems, except occasionally in the middle of the night (say, once a month or so at that time). However, Verizon has some of the worst customer support I've ever dealt with.

Agreed. I've had dial-up, Bellsouth DSL, and now Comcast cable, and cable is the most reliable and fastest.

The main difference between cable and dsl is cable isnt affected by the weather as much.

I will throw this into here, but I have Verizon FIOS and we have it set up wireless and I run into so many connection problems, any one have a possible idea why I might be?

(They were suppose to hardwire the computers, but I was not around when it happened and they didn't but for some reason I run into so many wireless issues)...but my connection is very fast otherwise)

Ive got the upgraded wicked fast verizon dsl, 3mhps's or something likke that. its wicked fast but during poor wether i can lose the connection. tons better than dial up and the lack of disconnects compared to any other provider is worth the 40 bucks a month 10x over atleast.

I had trouble when I first got verizon dsl,and they
bent over backwards to fix my problem. I don't have
any connection problems now.

dont go with verizon
once i had a connection problem, the modem would only sporadically connect, and a tech support guy came over. he said that my modem was too old and changed the speed on their end from 1500 down to 768 down and told me once i got a new modem to call tech support to have the speed changed back up. but once i got the new modem i called tech support and they told me my speed was at 1500 down and had never been changed even though my modem's diagnostic page said i was connecting at 768 and before the tech support guy changed it it would connect at 1500. i told the guy on the phone what happened but he still told me it had never been changed. i was never able to change it back up so i canceled their service and now i use cable.
