Lost with a 88 on a JJ66x river
 

Villain in this hand was a 25/17 player, nothing standing out in particular. I only beat a pair of sevens here, IMO, right? Or could the be a lone Ace often enough to make a call +EV?

I was really lost in this spot. Should I have checked the turn?
